Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Reverse Sensor Volume when playing music

Just a quick one for anyone in the know. Is there a way of either muting or quietening down the music that is being played when the parking sensors start to work. Currently if I am listening to music at a decent sort of volume and activate the parking sensors either by selecting them with the button or engaging reverse, you can't hear the beeping at all and I have to turn the music right down. Anyone know if there is a way to mute the music while the sensors do there thing?
And I don't need any digs about just turning the music down with the knob either. Surely there is a way to do this!! Any cluey people out there??

i know that in the rnd510 on later firmware revisions that it would quieten the music automatically, perhaps there is a setting.

Later cars do it regardless of radio. I think its the OPS cars that do it from memory. My passat has PDC and it does not mute the radio.

Hmm, maybe I need to start looking into a vcds change then!

I have an RNS510. Mine does it automatically, this was activated through VCDS.

On the right side of the screen there is an arrow, click the arrow and it shows a list of icons, one is for the beeps. I didn't have those options on the old firmware, got them after updating the RNS510 FW. (updated to whatever was current in August 2013)

So is there a way it can be activated on an RCD510?

I have a 2010.5 R36 with an RCD510. I found the setting in the tone settings menu - press the musical note button (top RH corner of the RCD510), then touch 'Volume'. On mine, the third option down in that menu is the 'park distance control volume attenuation' setting - you can choose between three levels, or 'off'.

Have a look to see if the same menu exists on your unit.

Thanks mate. I will have a look next time I'm in the car but from memory, I am certain that mine hasn't got it. I am wondering whether I have to do some vcds coding for the actual unit itself as I bought the RCD510 from a wrecker and from what I was told, it came out of a GTI golf so I am wondering whether it thinks it is still in a golf without parking sensors and therefore doesn't provide that option. I am certain that there was something somewhere in vcds that you could tell the unit what sort of car it is in but I am stuffed if I can find it!! I might have to find someone with vcds who is willing to sit down with me and have a play one day as I know that the last time I had a scan there was a couple of things that were an anomaly and it seemed like there was some sort of coding issue even though the unit still seems to work fine!!
