  • Arqray Power

Hey Guys, these questions may have already been asked\answered but I had a look and didn't find the info I was after.

I'm trying to find some details about the Arqray exhaust for the Passat R36.

I was looking at purchasing one and spoke to Wal from Euro Exhaust a bit and he mentioned that someone bought one off him but after installing it, noticed power loss?

I trying emailing Arqray themselves to find out if they could provide some dyno charts and\or data regarding power loss or gain but they never replied. Wal hit em up aswell, on my behalf, but they wouldn't provide details for him.

Who out there has installed one and actually got some data in the way of power gain or losses. I don't wana get one and then notice a significant loss of power.

At the same time has anyone noticed drone after having it installed after a while. And if so do you have a sedan or wagon?

    Let me know.

    Thanks

    Hi Toodskie

I had a cat back Arqray exhaust fitted to my 2010 R36 wagon and also purchased it from Wal back in 2010 when our car was around 3 months old, I sold the car earlier this year with it still fitted and was very happy with it for the nearly 4 years it was on the car.

The car had a much nicer "deep rumble" (the sound first start up in the morning was fantastic) and I didn't experience any drone (witch I was also concerned about when putting on my new car)

I didn't notice any power loss (sorry no data on this) and that's the first of heard of it to be honest, IMO you can go wrong with one of these system's they are beautifully made, fitted straight on with no mods required, Wal was also good to deal with at the time with it being shipped direct to my door

I no longer have the car, but I do miss the sound

    hope that helps 4paw

      Thanks 4paw.

Anyone else with anything to add?

Anecdotal report of power loss from an owner is probably exaggerated, I have not heard of any aftermarket systems causing power loss on the R36. Seems unlikely, Having said that, I did hear that it tended to drone - I thought Wal reported the same thing from a previous customer when I was speaking to him about this.

The Supersprint from Wal is supposedly quite closely priced, and I suspect that would be a superior product, have you considered that one?

Yea I was on the same page as you Jakey, I've never heard of an aftermarket exhaust causing power loss on any car, unless its up in the 'Supercar' category.

I would assume some sort of gain, but on a NA engine it will be minimal.

Wal did mention that it does have some minor drone but this was in a Wagon. I have a Sedan so it shouldn't be an issue. But then after 4Paw's comments, he reckons it didn't drone on his Wagon...

I've considered the Supersprint but I like the idea of the slightly more exotic note to the car and personally I like the cut of the tips on the Arqray over the Supersprint.

I'm looking at getting on in the next couple of weeks when I get off the road from work. I'm planning on taking to the boys up the road and seeing if I can get a before\after reading from them so we may finally have some data on the Arqray kit.

          I'll keep ya posted.

Sounds great mate. Mine's a wagon so I'm a bit apprehensive about the Arqray purely on drone. I agree with you, the tips are a better shape and design, little confused by the more exotic note comment though, both seem to sound pretty similar to me from just watching a bunch of Youtube clips... cause of course nobody in SA has one. Maybe 4Paw can chime in more on the drone if he's around the place?

I must admit you have me second guessing myself now, maybe I could go for Arqray! I want it to be aggressive!

From what I've read\heard, regarding the comparison between the SS and Arqray, the word is the Arqray is a bit more 'exotic' and louder, so it doesnt just sound like every other V6 with an exhaust on the road. I wana stay away having the R36 sound like a bloody commodore.

Hi Guys, just do it you know you want to

                Here's a link from a few years back http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...6-43568-4.html

Hope it helps, and just to set your mind at ease Toodskie it definitely won't sound like a commodore with the exhaust cut off !!

                Cheers 4paw

So you didn't experience the drone? I am considering, but that is a worry! Does the R32 drone usually, as I know it sounds a lot louder than the R36?

No Drone, as like you this was my concern at the time with a new car with around 5000kms on the clock, I found that I could make the car drone "slightly" if you let it labour in top gear up a slight incline going around 80-85k (hope that makes sense)

Also btw, If anyone needs a nearly new OEM cat back standard R36 wagon exhaust PM me as I've still got it in my shed !

I reckon I might get the Arqray then. I really do dig that angry/exotic sound. You get hints of it with the DSG shift "brap" noise, like it wants to sound better.
Did you go through Wal/Euro Exhausts? Cost?

Yes went through Wal (nice guy from memory) the cost was just under 3k at that time I think (4 years ago), I reckon they would be more now ?
He shipped direct from Japan to my door at the time with no problems.

Wicked, do they charge extra GST on that then? I have spoken to the guy, seems quite nice and honest. I am considering the titanium tips but it looks like they're an extra $580ish if Nengun's price is anything to go by, which is a bit rich!

Thanks again 4paw. I'v seen that video before but again, its a little hard to gauge.

Jakey the TT tail is apparently just the blue tips according to Wal. Its not actually titanium piping.

I'm thinking of ordering mine from Nengun in a couple of weeks, only cause they're about $400 cheaper then Wal can get em in.

Hey Jakey, where did you get your evoms intake?

Yeah I know that's why I said titanium tips! The tips are actually titanium to get that burnt effect. I do really want them as they look amazing, but at $565 it's pretty rough to justify to yourself! I didn't realise Nengun is cheaper, I assumed Wal would be! Remember you'll have to pay GST on it too, Wal might be quoting GST inclusive? You'll want to double check that if you haven't already of course.

And I bought it from a guy on here, lucky me. It's awesome, get one. Doesn't have to be this one just get an intake, I love how throaty it sounds now even just driving slowly.
