  • What did you pay for your Passat (WA)

    Hi all.
Currently VW is offering deals on Passat.
118TSI Wagon is going for $38,990 drive away and 130TDI for $44,990.

I'm looking at the base model (without any extras).
What can you expect to pay, is it possible to go down to $35K for a new MY15 version.
I guess dealer would be ok to discount MY14 and MY14.5.
What would the price be on demos?

    Thanks

Often when there is advertised specials with drive away prices the discount has already been given away. Check the full list price of the car and if you've got a 10% saving that's about it. You may be able to negotiate some mats or tint to be thrown in for the same price but I wouldn't push for more than about $500 if the price is already heavily discounted.

The price of MY15 is $40.990, so 2k of the price is not "heavily" discounted...

So I guess I can expect to get the price down to 36,5K (10% off RRP)?

You have to factor in all the dealer delivery, registration, plates, etc into the cost when you compare the prices. These are all included in the drive-away price but not in the retail price as you have to put these on top.

I'd be surprised if you got much discount at all off the advertised prices.

Anyway, I'd like to hear what deals people have achieved.
And also would it be better to get TSI or TDI if I do around 15kms per trip?
          Thanks

            Hi Dieter,

The current drive away prices are about as good as you will get. I would suggest that you may want to ask for some extras eg: window tint or extended warranty rather than a discount as there is a large profit margin in the accessories to negotiate with.

Considering that you only travel 15km/trip and the $6k price difference and servicing costs, I would be looking at the TSI. You may be aware that the DPF in a diesel benefits from a +15min drive at +100km/h every 1000km to carry out a passive regen.

When I bought my Passat in 2012, the boys at Vic Park were the most negotiable.

Good luck and tell us how you get on.

Forgot to ask: is there a big difference in inclusions between MY14.5 and MY15. I read that a lot of options being removed, does it mean that MY15 for 118TSI has less standard things than MY14.5 or am I missing something?
Am I better off waiting for new Passat that comes out in 2015, it says that it will start from $35,000?
                Thanks

The sales person ought to be able to tell you the differences in the update. If they don't know I'd be looking for another sales person

It looks like the current model Passat is in early "run-out". The new model is due later next year but I don't think it can come soon enough. VW have had the Passat on "special" for a while now and I can't see them increasing the price as otherwise the relatively slow sales will all but stop.

As I've said before, the deals that they are running at the moment are pretty decent and you'll be lucky to get more than $500 off the price (but more likely be able to negotiate some deal-sweeteners).

If you can hang out I'd wait for the new model, but if you have to update now there's some decent deals going around.

I'm not sure what the entry point to the new Passat is going to be. If VW choose to move the model more "upmarket" then they could load the base model up with options (leather seats, sat nav, bi-xenon, LED DRL, etc). Personally I think it's a mistake not to offer a fabric trim, non-loaded base model as an entry point which could certainly start in the low-mid $30's but then again I'm not paid the big $ to make those decisions.
