Who here can and want to replace my RNS unit's hard drive to an SSD and has the latest firmware and maps.

Your firmware version is found by holding in the setup button till a screen with version information appears and press that.

All will be revealed.

Maps are not available on here any more We have to buy them to stay legal.

Its a lot of work for what I would say is not a lot of gain.

I don't have a problem updating the firmware my self but I wouldn't attempt the ssd replacement cause I would destroy the clips for sure, hence why I asked if someone is willing to do it for me...

I wonder how the new DAB version of RNS with SSD that i have recently purchased from Europe will go on performance for a stock ssd model?

What's DAB? Assuming it's new better spec than mine.

Is that you hinting to install an ssd in mine so we can then compare it lol

DAB is Digital audio Broadcast and is used in lots of countries.

However Australia uses DAB+ which apparently is not compatible with the older DAB and so a Euro version may not work here

As well as that its range is limited and our DAB+ radio at home suffers from dropouts when we walk around the room so best of luck in a moving car. A far better thing is SIRIUS satellite radio as used in the USA which has a huge number of stations and is available nationwide.
Only place it didnt work was in narrow canyons and the GPS dropped out in the same places

I will be installing my old unit into a mk5 golf so i can test that way. I am not sure it is worth the effort to install ssd, i am only getting ssd as i wanted a DAB unit.

Oh yeah I watch some video on HD radio and was trying to get it in my car then I thought the reason I don't have it cause Australia don't have digital radio..

So now it all makes sense

Is that what the firmware update does ?
Is that video in motion ?

VIIM is part of the upgraded 4120 firmware. The firmware does more than that It also has a male voice as part of it.

It is of course ILLEGAL to use it while car is in motion and screen is visible to the driver.

So really if used correctly is useless. Mine has it I only ever used it once to try it and played a music DVD concert with the screen turned to map and the audio playing.

Oh then it's a must.. I wouldn't sms and drive but I will watch a music concert and drive...

But don't worry people I have excellent peripheral vision.

Also I can understand why men would rather a male voice, I guess they are use to blocking out a women's
