    R36 Haldex Controller

    I purchased a Haldex controller in the recent group buy. I have not fitted it yet but find myself in need of some cash for a motorbike. (Changing priorities )

    Has anyone got any feedback of how the R36 performs with the controller to talk me into keeping it?
    The original idea was that it would help to neutralise the handling in the twisties and I thought 50/50 AWD would be a help on snow covered roads on my many trips to the snowfields.

    Can't say for the R36 but I've just recently done a similar upgrade on the Tiguan.

    It does fix the understeering completely and gives you 50/50 power distribution when you need it unlike the stock car which has a FWD bias. If it's something that bothers you and stops you from enjoying the car then I'd say keep it.

    Though it's only something you notice when you're driving through the twisties or giving it a few beans around a round-about.

    If you were to run your car on the track I'd say it was essential but for road use it's a nice upgrade.

      I'll be interested in the outcome whichever way you decide to go - the improvement if you decide to keep it, or the price if you decide to sell it.

      Does this unit re-map/update the DSG shifting patterns, or is it for giving more power to the rear wheels?

        You need a DSG tune to remap the gearbox shift patterns. This is a different beast.

        The Haldex controller just adjusts the amount of torque transferred to the rear wheels. It takes a bunch of the sensor inputs from the car (throttle position, steering angle, g-force, wheel slip, etc) to work out how much to engage the rear wheels.

        It changes the handling of the car closer to the limits. For day to day driving it handles/feels the same.

          has anyone tried a rear sway bar as an alternative to the Haldex as that could also dial out the understeer?

          May work out cheaper too?

            Thanks, sound like a good upgrade, but probably a lower priority to the re-map. Are the Haldex units expensive? Can anyone install it?

            I've seen some ?tension bars? on eBay that go under the engine and under/around the exhaust.. Do these act as sway bars? I couldn't tell if they were a gimmick it not.

              I'd probably agree on the priorities having done both (although on a Tiguan). The DSG upgrade makes day to day driving so much better, whereas you need to be able to push the car to have a benefit from the performance Haldex unit.

              The DSG software and performance Haldex are both around the same price ($1,000-$1,500) depending on what options you get with both. DSG can add options of increased launch RPM, quicker gear changes, etc and Haldex can have a remote switch to change Haldex program (Eco, Stock, Race).

              I don't think this is a complete waste - it's just whether stiffening up the underbody is going to have a beneficial effect when you haven't upgraded the springs, shocks and sway bars first. A lot of these upgrades are only really going to be noticeable if you're putting the car onto a track.

                OK. I still have not even taken this out of the shipping box so it is for sale. It is the model for 2009 R36 and includes remote controller.

                I bought it on the Group Buy deal and it owes me A$1,488

                Selling for my group buy cost and I will pay the postage to you.

                It took almost 2 months for me to get this from HPA so if you want one faster this is it.
