  • Dynaudio amp won't fit!

    Hi

I tried to replace my old amp with a new Dynaudio (Lear) amp today as I've read that it was a "plug 'n play"... sadly it hasn't worked like that for me.

The existing cable loom has a completely different plug system to the new amp. So I'm not too sure what my options are here. It took quite a while to find the new amp too, major bummer!

    Yikes!

    What year is your R36?

The Dynaudio (Lear) amp looks like the photo on the left? (it looks new)

Is the factory amp on the right? Does it look like the one pictured below? Also, can you please post the part# if possible so I can try track down the details?

Not sure how your loom is configured, but if the number of pins are compatible, you may be able to create an adapter plug - just need to track down a wiring diagram.

If you were in Brisbane, I'd be happy to help out. Otherwise, it'll be a little while before I'm down Sydney again (at least a couple weeks or more).

FYI - I've updated the retrofit guide to warn others that there may be different versions of the pin-outs..

        Hi

My car is a MY2009 (OCT) first registered in Jan 2010.

        The new amp is a: 3CO O35 456C.

An adapter cable is possible I guess, but where would I get the parts?

Another bummer is that I also installed my brand spanking new RNS510 (from JKU), and I've lost my reversing camera!

I'll call Martin at JKU to sort that out I guess, but its very annoying...

Ha! I make take you up if you're down here in a few weeks!

Right, that must be really annoying =S

Do you have a part number for the old factory amplifier? It's really strange that it uses a different plug configuration - hopefully it may be something else and your amp is in the boot (some other models have them in the boot).

Once we figure out the part number of the factory amp, I'll do some digging around to see if/where to source plugs/wiring diagrams etc from.

In the worst-case scenario, there is a good market for the Lear amplifier. Though, personally I'd prefer to resolve the issue and figure out how to make it work.

I'll PM you if/when I know when I'm down next.

You, Sir are a gentleman indeed!

I'll remove the OEM amp tomorrow and get the part details back to you ASAP!

I have a wagon so no boot for me... is there any other hidey holes behind secret panels etc?

Theres a huge electronic device under my drivers seat but I'm told thats the BlueTooth module. Its huge, and on its way out too as I bought the 9W7 BT unit and I was hoping to have all 3 items installed and talking to each other by now!

            Oh well, we persevere...!

The plugs need to be turned upside to plug into the dynaudia amp

Unfortunately, the photo on the right (original post) shows a completely different plug... Timlin will provide a part number on the original amp tomorrow - with any luck this is a different component and his amp is in another location.

BTW - what year is your R36? Is it sedan or wagon? ... there may be more than one wiring system.

Could not view the attached photos, mines an 08 Sedan, I simply reversed the plugs when connecting the new amp.

Right, mine's an 08 Sedan too - same experience.

Here's the pic - let me know if you have trouble viewing it (or accessing the link below).

Hopefully VW didn't change the plug or wiring after 2008.. maybe we're lucky and they simply moved the amp - I've had a couple people look near the battery in my car for the amp.

I'll get the actual part number tomorrow, but for what its worth, its a Blaupunkt unit and it says ""8 Channel Amplifier" on the top... so its definitely the device I'm looking for!

                      Will advise!

Yeah, that's not a good sign.. hopefully we can find out more about the connector used from the part number.

A pinout diagram/numbering would be most helpful. Also be good to determine the type of plug used (if standard).

With some luck, we can track down a male 'Lear' plug and female 'Blaupunkt' plug and wire them together using the Lear (which we have) and Blaupunkt (which we need) pinouts. Otherwise, the next option is to splice in a male 'Lear' plug (possibly harvest from a wiring loom). Then, the other (less appealing) option is to splice & solder wires from the loom directly onto the Lear amp (or at least an intermediary plug) =S

Worst-case scenario, you can always re-sell the amp...

-- Does anyone else with a non-Dynaudio R36 have a different plug on their amplifier? It will be good to find out which vehicles have what plugs - maybe the Plug-n-Play retrofit only works with the 2008 model??
