  • RNS510 issues

I've had an Alltrack for just over a year and am surprised by the poor performance of the RNS510 unit.
    Issues I've seen;
    1. Radio stations change on restart
    2. Will be playing one stn and showing the other on the display
    3. System is generally slow to respond, "system is starting up" common message after starting the car.
    4. Loses last location on connected iPod via cable connection, so playlist s are pretty useless.

Is this typical ? I'm wondering if I have a lemon or this is normal. I'm thinking a BIOS battery issue.

    Hi,

I too have had mine for just over a year. In relation to your issues

    1. Never experienced that. Perhaps you've set presets 7 - 12 rather than presets 1 - 6? Wonder if when you start the car is reverts to show presets 1 - 6?
    2. Never experienced
    3. Yes, strangely slow to respond on almost all commands
    4. Mine holds its place in a playlist.
    5. Each radio station is saved, and when skipping through, the station is lit up in white to show that it's selected however for some reason position 3(the fox) doesn't lit up. Effect being that when I press next on the steering wheel, it selects position 1, not 4. Pretty annoying. Anyone else experienced that?

You could (1) raise this with the dealer or (2) download new firmware and attempt upgrading yourself. See the 'Media' forum

I don't have those issues but maybe someone can tell me how to turn off the auto scaling thing on the maps so i can keep it zoomed in. the auto zoom thing is ballsack.

Turn the right-dial clockwise I believe to zoom in, anticlockwise for zoom out, and push it in for auto-zoom.

Pushing the right dial repeats the last spoken command, well on mine it does.

Pushing the [i] button (next to eject) also repeats the last spoken command on mine, and my wife's.

I've never pushed the dial in when navigation is running (I rarely use navigation as well, I just have the map screen on and make the route up myself as much as possible). Good sense of direction ftw

                  iPhone Siri navigation FTW!
VW need to update their nav units and adopt apple carplay.
The RNS510 is doing ok for a 7 year old technology, but it's easily outclassed by smart phones now. I don't use the 510 for nav duties anymore the phone integration is pretty good with the latest Bluetooth module and renders the unit to a display and amplifier only for me. I hardly use the touch screen now. I would expect new models or updates to radio nav options by late 2015.

Hello! I too have just purchased a new Passat Alltrack and I am experiencing a rather strange issue with my RNS510 navigation system. When the system is navigating (guiding) me to a selected address, I am occasionally asked to head toward what sounds like "Dulme".

I brought the car back to VW and they updated the map, but the issue remains.

I am in Sydney, Australia, and there is no Dulme here.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I apologise if I wasn't suppose to post this here. I just thought the Mods would prefer me to ask a question in an already created thread.

                    Thank you.

It is saying 'dummy' because it doesn't know how to say that road.

Does that work with Android? You know, the leading smart phone platform in the world =P

Well Audi are investing in Android it seems so I assume VW would follow.

Hahaha! Thanks Ryan_R, I thought that it was calling me a dummy. Thanks for confirming it. Are you hearing the same thing on yours?

I was going to ask the same question, Mine gives street names and directions OK, but cannot pronounce suburb names, seemed to start when thenew street numbering started. Iterestingly, have driven from past Nowra on the south coast to Newcastle, and in different locations in Sydney, without it giving the correct suburb town names. My local VW dealer "cannot reproduce the problem".
                              Thanks.
