i gave up looking for an R36 i was happy with and bought a new highline with sports & convenience packs, dynaudio and extended warranty for $62ishK on road.
I sat in a b7 highline today. I'm glad I bought the r36. Just the little things - the seats, steering wheel, exhaust note just make the car a bit more special. It is a great car and if the r36 never sold I would consider it.
It's a buyers market at the moment and more will come on if you can be patient!

love the exhaust note of my 36, brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. even more so when I put it in S mode.
The seats are good, but was more of a fan of my CC seats (nappa with a/c) but love the car overall and looks all that more special than a standard B6 or a B7.

just a fyi, this was a my14+ change so cars delivered around sep 13 onwards i think.
I'ms sure it was earlier than that. My sister's 118TSI got dead cow, nav, RVC, bluetooth and power tailgate standard, and she has had hers for well over a year - delivery in late 2012 from memory, as one of the earlier batches of Passats with the new standard toys.
Went and drove an R36 and V6 Highline back to back today. Highline is a nicer car but it's also boring. No paddleshift is a fun killer and it's just too quiet. For the extra money I think i'll keep looking for a quality R36 at the right price.
Heli's in the street Finn... bring the XKR/"12 sec" Supra down and we can take turns.
Turns out it might have just been that year or car that didn't have paddleshift. The one I mentioned above does....
Paddle shifters were standard on the R36, along with the chunkier steering wheel. They were optional on the B7 as part of the sports package until MY2013 when they became standard on the V6 Highline (still part of the sports pack for the 118TSI and 130TDI).
It doesn't look like the thicker steering wheel is available at all on the current Passats.
I was given a V6 highline as a loaner for a few days while mine was in for service and replacement of the tailgate module. No sports pack and no comparison. Didn't like the seats in comparison and the only positive was lower RPM at freeway speeds. Too boring for me and not a car I would have purchased.
