118 TSI lag - specific or all models

Having enjoyed a test drive in new Passat 118TSI, there seemed to be a lag of a second or two on starting from traffic lights or stop signs. Is this due to the turbo cutting in? Is it a characteristic of all the current MY14 Passat models including the 3.6litre FSI?
Advice please.

It's a characteristic of the 7 spd DSG. Change to 2nd gear too soon after moving off.
