  • New alltrack, photos and problem

Hope these photos come through ok. Beautiful vehicle, sports seats can be very hard on a long trip, have bought a sports seat cushion insert to give seat extra cushioning, much better. On the negative side, i have a problem with the stop/ start system on the engine. It has an intermittent habit of NOT starting , its done this about twelve times in the month i've had the car, i took it back to VW and they couldn't find anything because this system isn't in the computer management system. He gave me a written list of things that might cause the car not to start after taking my foot off the break, but i didn't see anything on that list that related in anyway to what i was doing at the time. He suggested i might have to bring it back in to them so someone from the dealers can drive it for a few days to see for themselves whats happening, which is what i will arrange tomorrow. The car stopped twice the day after i took it in to VW within one kilometre of each other. Believe me its scary when your stuck on a busy road and the car wont start, and theres traffic coming up behind you at speed.

    New alltrack, photos and problem

Stop start can take a little getting used to at first. I was paranoid for the first few weeks that the car wasn't going to start again in traffics. When I first got the alltrack back in January I experienced the same thing as you, the car didn't start straight away. I had to reapply the brakes hold for a second then release them and the car started. I must say that this only happened a few times when the car had less than 200 kms. I've now put on over 5000kms and it seems to have gotten better. The only time the car doesn't start straight away is if I come to a complete stop then quickly go to take off. The car gets confused and doesn't register fast enough that the brakes are no longer applied. This is only a very minor issue for me and has only happened a few times. To avoid this I make sure the car switches off before try to move off again.

Hope they get this sorted for you. Keep us updated.

Thanks for your input Daniel, i've just been back to VW and they are going to give me a loan car on 23/9 for up to 4 weeks so they can drive mine around and see what happens.I don't mind this and am not worried about how many K's they put on it, just want it sorted. They have my sympathy in that i appreciate how hard it might be to find and fix an intermittent fault.will keep this forum posted. Dave

Good to hear they're doing something about it and not dismissed the problem.

I know the car, basically we can monitor the stop/start signals, so when it doesnt stop or doesnt start we can watch in real time what is stopping it. Interesting that in 2 k's it did it twice, I think i did 10 + and it worked flawlessly. But we need to drive and monitor the measured values until it happens to see what the cause is

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't this go to the B4 onwards forum? You might get more "me too!" stories...

there is insurance, in the event of an accident you pay the excess (generally alot $2500) or you can pay a daily fee $35 or so and it will reduce the excess ($2000)

Wow, thats steep excess. Think i'll cancel the loan car, i have another car so it's not really necessary Drove the car today with the stop/start switched off, but when i was leaving my destination, i had to drive up a driveway with an incline and i forgot to switch off the s/s and it didn't start as i went to drive out of the driveway. Can't trust the s/s

Cancelled the loan car, dropped the car off for them to drive and assess. Hope they find the problem. Love the car, not being picky, genuine concern for safety when it doesn't start in heavy traffic. Seems to be happening after about a 20 klm trip.
