  • Fuel Gauge

    Hi,
My fuel gauge start playing today:
Start car and fuel gauge is normal and trip to distance is normal too.
After few kilometers or few minutes fuel gauge drop to zero (empty).
Turn off engine, start again and all is ok, but same problem after few kms.
Was started car 10 times and same problem.
Any idea, and my car is VW Passat B6 3.2 V6 3C AWD 2006.
    Thanks

fuel sender is faulty. you will need to get someone to replace this or do it yourself however you need to open up the thank. same thing happened to my gti. happens regularly right after I fill up gas and now during a drive it will just go to empty and km left goes to -----.

check vcds and you will most likely see something similar tot he following.

    00771 - Fuel Level Sensor (G)
    003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 00100011

Thanks "booba", but can you tell me did you replace fuel sender or did you go to service?
Is it easy job or not?
Do you know by any chance where I can buy fuel sender?
Any info is helpful for me.

      Thanks

Before you replace the sender, you might want to check that there is nothing wrong with the wiring as faulty wiring could give you the same error.

I have it booked in with mike at prestige and performance to have it fixed. I just didn't want to open up the fuel tank myself as you need to be very careful and torque it up correctly otherwise have the protential of fuel leaks. just easier to leave it up to the professionals.

you could probably buy one from vw or OEM / Performance Parts for Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Porsche & Volkswagen - ECS Tuning. you would need to do some research into the correct one for your car.

Not a bad idea but all the other similar issues that others have had have required fuel sender replacement.

              Thanks boys.
That is very useful info for myself.
I will see first wires and after that going to check with VCDS to see which errors i have.
              Cheers

Did not check anything and now my fuel gauge still working like should be.
No problems and no drops to 0 (empty).
                Something strange ?!

I do not have VCDS ?
Is there anyone in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast who can check my VW for problems with fuel gauge and boot lid opening/closing issue ?
                    I can travel anywhere.

                    Cheers

Unfortunately this means that it is not solved and the problem can return.
