Genuine VW flat blades can be bought as inserts from your dealer. Not expensive, quoted $12-$14.
Bit of fiddling to change them, 10 minutes as a fumble fingers.

Whole blades, well, they're not cheap. I paid $96 for a pair of front ones. Ouch! heck of a difference in price.
They take about 2 minutes to change

Rear screen blade is $18 from your dealer. 1 minute to change.

This relates to a 2008 Passat Wagon.

      Hope this helps.

Can't do just the inserts on Passats, in most cases.

You need to replace the whole blade. They're about $40 per side from VW.

You do get what you pay for though, as a lot of the aftermarket ones are garbage.

passat08, I'm assuming by your user name you own a 2008 passat, in which case you can use the genuine VW inserts for your car.
They'll also work for Golf MKV and MKVI as well as others.

Here is an image of the packages for the full replacement blades as well as just the inserts.
The inserts were $12 each and you will need to break one end (RH) of the originals to replace the insert.
Not to worry though, VW thought of that and kindly provide the replacement securing clamp.

I hope this helps you and others.

          cheers,

2008 Passat Wagon and 2006 MkV Golf, both TDi.

jackafrica, does the back wiper for the tailgate use the same insert or there is a different part?

On a B6 the rear wiper blade is supplied as an assembly only. ( Golk MkV is different as it is longer)
The good news is that they're only $18 and clip on and off in a minute.

The bummer is the design of the car which seems to throw all the muck onto the rear screen in both the Passat wagon and the Golf MkV
Maybe that's why they made the rear wiper blade assembly cheaper
I keep a spare on hand, cheap enough and they don't last long wiping away all that road grit.
Here's the details on the rear wiper blade, you can see how it clips in.

                Hope this helps.

Had to replace mine the other day on 2011 passsat wagon VW dealer quoted $48 each on the front and $18 up back. They said they were not the refill ones. I said I'll think about it. Unclipped the blade and had a look. Yes $12 from super cheap and nasty autos I pulled the old one apart and managed to slip a refill in and all good.
I have yet to look at the rear blade as I avoid using it at all, as it is the rear vision mirror dimming device as the standard auto dimming does not work much. Must do it though as it makes a horrid grinding noise if it does wipe the rear window.

Replaced mine yesterday with genuine VW, what a difference! No more rattling and wobbling blades. I am gathering they not only wear out the rubber blades, but the aero wiper body must flog out too. Either way, I am happy with the outcome.
