  • Spend 65k on Alltrack and no GPS, brilliant!

    Hey guys,

After 5 & 1/2 months since ordering, I picked up my new AllTrack this afternoon. I ordered every option except Chassis Control. Bloody exciting!

Except my GPS doesn't work on the RNS510.

I get to the dealership at the arranged 4:30 and they had a mechanic working on it until knock off time and couldn't fix it. No satellites detected, no latitude etc.

The car is now booked in for first thing Friday morning for them to take another look at it. They think the GPS antenna cable might not be connected and will need to take the unit out. With the potential of creating rattles etc...

After leaving the dealership the RNS510 could only play radio (no reverse camera, no Bluetooth etc) until I worked out how to soft reset it by holding in the three top buttons. It even popped out their GPS update CD which they weren't able to eject.

Has this happened to anyone before and how did the dealer fix it?

What should I hit them up for? You think they would have picked something like that up earlier on rather then when I was just about to pick it up.

What have you guys been able to get out of your dealerships after they mucked you around?

    Look forward to your replies...

I've had them freeze before when loading map discs in.

It can be a very embarrassing and frustrating experience. Once the maps are loaded, it should sort itself out and start picking up satellites. If not, load the disc in again, and it should re-install the maps if it hadn't completed the install in the first place.

It's not a common problem, but it does happen once in a while.

I did try putting the disc back in and you can hear it reading it but then nothing happens.

When I press eject after a few minutes, it comes out and says verifying navigation data but then nothing else after that. I have tried it three times but unfortunately no difference

It can see the maps if I put in an address manually but it is unable to route because it doesn't know where it is. No signal etc.

Is it outside when you are playing with it cos it wont find the satellites until it sits outside for a while.

It can take up to 15 mins to locate if the last time it was on was in Germany or similar.

Has it got the complete map or just the base map. Also if it has loaded say V6 map and you put it in again it wont reload it.

Get a copy of an older version and try that then upgrade to the latest. I have swapped back to V5 from V6 and back up again when the disc of V6 was faulty ( worked but data missing). It wouldnt however reinstall V6 over the bad version.

Worth trying but seems funny you have no other bits working Mine still had all the other going even when the map was sick.

Sounds like connection problems There is a connector in the roof below the sharkfin as well as someone on here found out when having satellite problems Have a read through the RNS firmware forums

If the cable was broken then the dealership would be able to diagnose that in an instant with vas. vcds was able to tell when my antenna was shorted or open circuit on the gti when it failed to pick up signal.

i it is highly likely that they have no idea.

            Well, here is mine.
Normally, I give them chance to repair it without asking for any compensations ( IMO, it just doesn't go with the person who bought 65k car), and not just because the fault like yours is a very minor one. You also arrived at the dealership at 16:30, which could be a bit too late to complete whatever they needed to do.

They shouldn't introduce any rattles, if they need to remove the radio, it's straight forward job.

I'm sure that the warranty law doesn't entitle any one to compensation for the lost time when the car is of the road. Some dealers provide a free loan car, but that's their good will only.

How ever, I agree with you, because they should carry out the pre-delivery inspection properly and test every system in the car. So, I would be asking, what else they haven't checked?

            Good luck with it.

What is wrong with people these days that they are more concerned with getting compensation than they are with resolving an actual problem?

I'm sorry if I offended you Brad. I don't sit in a 9-5 job where paid leave is given to me. I own my own business where I only get paid when I work. Now I have to sort this out on Friday morning. Yes, I think I am entitled to compensation.

When I bought mine with all the fruit listed in my sig ( for 4 K less than you paid) the salesman spent well over an hour showing both my wife and I how EVERYTHING worked so that there was no ongoing problems..
As the dealer was an hour away from home I didnt want to have to come back for minor things.
They do have loan cars but charge a nominal daily fee However we got one for 3 days free when some workshop equipment broke down and they couldnt complete the job they were doing on time.
You're lucky you got the Satnav for free, it cost me $3000. LOL

Perhaps the salesman needs a rev up about demonstrating features when delivery is done.

Cheers Hillbilly, they just got back to me saying they can give me a free loan car for the day which is great. Before they said they wanted me to wait around for it to be fixed. That's better service

I only get paid when i work too. Sure I post on forums while I wait for my data queries to run but i have to be at work to get paid. I wouldn't be getting paid to take my car to the dealership.

As you are self-employed, i'm sure you can find a way to claim your losses on your tax.

As i said, you seem to be more concerned about compensation than getting the problem resolved

edit: I agree with hillbilly - they charged you a premium.

Thanks for the accounting advice Brad but I'm not sure what else you think I can do besides taking it in on Friday.

Charged me a premium... Nice try Mate

I forgot to me to mention I also got pearl black, business rego & a tow bar.

                        Cheers
