I have 2009 passt TDI...and I have experienced that when car goes down the hill at about 80 km/h engine rev up to 3000-3500 RPM even if I do not press the gas padel. RPM comes back to normal driving on flat surface road. Is this very common or my cr experiencing any kind of problem ???

Can any body has experience this in their car Please respond if anybody had experience this.

i forgot to tell..yes, i have dsg automatic transmission and i do brake downhill...

Engine is going into over-run - engine is being turned by the wheels/wieght of vehicle/inertia rather than engine pushing the car. If you have instantanous fuel readout on then it should be reading zeo.

Yep, perfectly normal. The car is detecting that you want to maintain or reduce speed going down hill (because you are applying the brakes), so it is downshifting to a lower gear to improve engine braking.

I've found that a couple of times I've caught the gearbox offguard when I've released the brakes just as it is starting the downshift revmatch process, and I see the revs increase before dropping back down again.

The car is just gearing down and applying engine braking effectively, it helps you to maintain the same speed or slow down more efficiently whilst going downhill. All DSG's I've driven have done it, so nothing to worry about there.
