  • passat dieseling sound, normal?

Hi Guys, went to the dealer for the engine oil consumption test,(it is consuming 1L every 500km at the moment), just found the engine sounds like a diesel engine when I start the car. The service adviser said it is normal, he said
1: your passat has the same engine as the GTI, it is very normal to have the dieseling sound.
2: Drive your car for 1000km and come back, even if the engine oil light is on, keep driving, if the engine got damaged, we will give you a new one!

The second statement I found is wrong by calling VW Australia and Talked to the service manager. Not sure the first statement is true or not.

    I have a 2010 passat 118 TSI.

    Cheers

All I am going to say to that is if someone asks you to do something like that, ask them to give it in writing and sign it lol.

My grandfather was given the same advice when his BMW engine was smelling like burnt oil. I told him to park it and get it towed to the dealer. Mechanics found that something let go and tried to hit him up for $6500!

      I gave them a serving.

They ended up carrying out the work and charged him the price of a major service.

I'd start documenting everything and sending emails to confirm conversations etc. I'd then get a VW specialist to have a look and see what they find and bring the report back to VW (Try Euro Automotive in Girraween, Muller&Muller in Lakemba or European Autotech in Mona Vale)

1L per 500km is NOT normal for even a GTI. I think that I would go through 500-1L between services (15k interval)
