  • Passat Alltrack Dash Rattle

I have a very annoying rattle around the instrument cluster and another in behind the chrome trim under the drivers side air vent. When I push on the chrome strip under the air vent it seems to disappear. As for the instrument cluster I have stuffed some business cards in the gap between the plastic instrument cluster and the binnacle, that seems to have worked for that one.

Any ideas on some real solutions would be great as would a suggestion on how to remove the chrome dash trim.

Love the car apart from that. Just returned from a 3000k Xmas trip, it just eats up the miles.

Mine got the rattle under the vent after I went across an awkward driveway Have partially fixed it by stuffing some foam in between the dash front and the black panel above the R/H glovebox under the ign .
Think it might actually be the tube into the vent has pulled away from something as there was a creak in there when I went over the driveway.

I think that i have the rattle as well. i actually lost a clip from the fuse cover that i have yet to recover when installing premium cluster. will be investigating it at some point when i pull it apart to fine the clip.

I have the same rattle in my Skodat Octavia - sounds like a few washers rattling on a thread (presume the bolt has backed off)
I have not looked into how to get under the dash to sort this out - it's on my todo list
Will be interested to hear from anybody that has sorted it out

Anyone had any success in finding some info on how to remove the dash trim around the cluster? I think I have the same issue with my 2013 Wagon.

I did mine a few months ago on a 2012 wagon, just be gentle and pull it towards you. There are some rubber "dampers" that make contact with the actual dash near the mfd. These can potentially fall off so just refit if you do.

                Good luck

No from memory pull very carefully towards you.

I have up the first time. But charged with confidence I succeeded the second.

This rattle seems to be endemic. I can reduce the rattle but pushing the metal trim back in until I hear an audible click. The trim seems work loose.

I had the same. Alltrack MY13 (130kW). Dealer service fixed it "most" of the time now.

I finally fixed mine by taking off the dash surround and putting some foam tape in behind it near each of the clips pushed it back together firmly and it seems to have stopped . I used a plastic body tool ( Ebay ) $12 a set to lever it off GENTLY

I have also had the strip around the instrument cluster rattle. It levered it off gently (easy to do slowly one bit at a time), but need to put some cloth/felt over the clips as one is still rattling.
I did have a very noisy dash rattle somewhere near the middle of the dash. I stuffed three car sponges in there it try to dampen/ or hold whatever was rattling. All to no avail, it was driving me nuts and considered selling the darn thing.
Then one very windy day I had both front doors open, a strong cross wind gusted up and blew an old parking ticket up from the nether regions which I removed.
That annoying crackling rattle has now disappeared.
I hope that helps someone one day.
Now happy again and don't need the radio cranked to eleven....

All that effort! Glad it's fixed. Be careful the VW advertising boys don't steal your idea. Remember the old oiling the wife's earring ad?
