  • Who has an R36?

    Hi all,

I am new to the forum and just keen to see who else on here has an R36? I have a 2009 Icelandic Grey R36 Wagon. Has anyone done any modifications to their R36?

Would be great to hear from you - even meet up with fellow R36 owners.

    Cheers,

    Adam

I own My10.5 R36 Wagon and have done the following mods:

    - 19 inch BBS wheels
    - Sprint Boost throttle controller (worthwhile)
    - BMC pan filter
    - Removed centre suitcase muffler, but extreme cabin drone. not a good quick fix for wagon version anyway.
    - Soon to put the suitcase muffler back on and replace rear tail L&R mufflers with Audi A8 Remus mufflers.

Will let you know the outcome when installed.

    Cheers

That's quite interesting to hear - i bet those BBS wheels look great.

I am considering removing the rear suitcase muffler (expansion chamber) just infront of the tips. I assume this is different to the one you removed? I heard some good reviews about it - but if it is the same as your's maybe it's not so good.

Yeh, would love to hear how it all changes with the new installation.

I've got a similar colour car.

Only mods now are LED licence plate lights. Bought a few more LEDs from Ebay for my reverse, turn signal & parking lights but still awaiting its arrival.

Planning to purchase a 9w7 Bluetooth kit & if possible an RVC kit later on for DIY.

I heard about this on page.7 from Waz36R who said he had little to no drone, which makes me think he has a early model which had slightly different muffler set up and may have been a sedan.

Let me assure you a wagon by removing the below muffler had a lot of bottom end drone espcially in auto and makes it sound like a commodore, poor sound. definitely cheap n nasty option.

Thanks for clearing that up for me - I agree with you. Given that you have a wagon and experienced the drone i am now considering other options. I have got a bit of interesting advice on potential cat-back exhausts (not supersprint or arqray) so i will see where that goes.

mine is a 2009 sedan, i wasn't aware of any differences in muffler setup
btw, there is no automatic gearbox available, they are all DSG which means its a dual-clutch manual gearbox.

                  Hi Seppo,

I looked into a supersprint cat back which sounds amazing and is really good quality - only one problem - its about $3000!! To me this was just too much for sound. I talked to the guys at Hi-tech mufflers as i know they do good work (had experienced them on other cars). They quoted me about $1800 for custom made cat back. I am really tempted by this and will probably end up going with them early next year. They have done a few R36's and 3.6L passat's and superb's.

P.S. As your in Sydney you should come to a VW meet on Sunday afternoon at Fox Studios?

Yes I was quoted same for the Supersprint. Have you heard their cat back on an r36? I've only found one crappy youtube clip that's described as a Supersprint cat back on an r36. I found several clips of a "full system" on r36/cc that sound amazing. I'm a nube so don't know if sound is same for both cat-back and full (e.g. full improves performance but no additional sound benefit above cat-back)???

If your mechanic at Hi Tech will do one for that price I'd be keen. I have fallen victim to the mod disease for the first time so it's all new and cash hungry for me (but fun).

My car is in shop having grill painted gloss black. If I get it back before Sunday I'll try to head to Fox Studios.

New 19' VMR wheels just arrived and are also being painted gloss black. Now have to figure out what 235-35-19 tires to buy and where.

Did your car come with the sporty, flat bottom steering wheel like in Golf R's?

Haha - that disease is so easy to catch - i know i have caught it - but haven't done anything yet...that will change soon. Here is a clip for a supersprint cat back:

VW Passat R36 Supersprint Exhaust - NZ Performance Tuning - YouTube

I am sure the guys at Hi-tech will honour that price - i just called and they gave that to me - i haven't started negotiating yet..haha. I keep hearing from everyone that the 3.6L produces such a great exhaust note with the right cat back...and in my opinion the R36 (or in your case CC) is too quite from factory when compared to R32 or Golf R.

I am going to get 19" VMR wheels as well...which ones did you end up getting - i am thinking V710's.

Yeh the steering wheel has a bit of a flat bottom - but not as flat as the Golf R. It is a little thicker i think that the R though.

P.S. Is your car a matte grey CC? Was it at Ramspeed a couple of weeks ago? I was in there and saw it - and if so - mate that is one sweet car....looks great. I am considering wrapping my car in the same colour...just got to save up!!

                        Who has an R36?

Sounds so good. This one too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQDSewqE1gM&sns=em

I blame Honda for my disease. The process began when drove my trashed 7 yr old CRV into dealer and asked to swap for a 2012 CRV. "Sorry. No stock in Aus. Thailand floods blah blah blah". So I had to investigate alternative vehicles. Logical that I ended up in a matt gray wrapped 3.6L 4Motion VW CC. WTF?

I went with V708's . But I really like 710s (maybe more). Don't remind me.

Matt wrap the most fun of it all. Will PM you details.
