  • R36/Passat Wiper Issue

    Hey guys,

Noticed recently that the wipers on my R36 are emitting a loud metallic sound during use.

When it hits its apex and back down to starting position it makes a sound as if something is hitting a spring (at least that sort of sound).

    Any thoughts?

Car still has just under a month of warranty left anyhow.

    Cheers.

Suggest, maybe when your car is running, pour some water on the windscreen with wipers on Auto, then try to find the source of the metallic noise.

Genuine from overseas is apparently the go.

It seems nobody likes paying $40 per side for a quality wiper from local dealers.

So no refills, you gotta purchase the complete arm

Not the arm, just the blade and the insert.

Hah, I've had a lot of my plate recently. Probably going to give Revivor's advice a whirl and see what happens.

I have a feeling it'll still end up with me replacing something but we'll see how I go.

Gave the car a wash today and decided to have a play with the wipers as per Revivor's advice. Turns out there's a spring within the wiper mechanism that's making an insane creaking sound.

Now just thinking whether or not it's worth going through warranty to get it replaced.

You may want to try some WD-40 (or equivalent) first - have found that it can make a big difference in such situations (suggest that you use the little tube so that you do not get it everywhere).

My opinion would be to get it fixed under warranty. WD40 would only go so far! The spring is not a common wear & tear part as far as I'm aware. ie. its not supposed to make that noise so early in its life.
