Buying my first VW Passat B5 V6 syncro, questions!

Hi all

Here goes my first real post.

I'm about to go and inspect my first VW V6 Passat B5 Synchro this weekend.
It's a 1999 Model with about 155'000KM's, from what i have seen it looks very well cared for.

I've owned a Peugeot for about 2 years now & need something with a little more room.
The Passat B5 looks like a great car, how ever what should be I weary of when buying one? Thing's to really look out for?

I have been doing a bit of reading on the Passat world forums, there seems to be a generalization that the Passat is an expensive piece of motoring that is prone to problems & expensive repair bills (have $2000 min set aside every year for maintenance) is this true? This is really starting to scare me off from buying one.

I want a reliable car most of all, I am quite hands on and service all my own cars regularly so that's not an issue.

I don't own a Passat but will say..........

-Get the vehicle inspected by your local mechanic or Road Side Service.
-Look for good service history.
-Look at price guides & compare with others that are similar.
-The age of the vehicle will mean some wear & tear items maybe due for renewal depending on maintenance history such as Water Pump & related Cooling Hoses, Bushes, Filters (Fuel/Pollen/Air), Brakes & Tyres etc.
