New Wagon Options

Howdy all,
just purchased an MY12 V6 Highline wagon, with sat nav, sunroof, drivers assistance package, Auto tailgate.
The dealer says they can get the RVC fitted.
Is there any other options not taken at build that can be fitted after the fact? (in particular Im after the adaptive cruise)

Hi, as you can see below, I have all the options you have ordered. Re the adaptive cruise, I would imagine that it would be very difficult to do aftermarket as this function is fully integrated with the car. I am not even sure your exisiting cruise control stalk is the same. On mine I have a switch on the stalk to set the required time distance to maintain from the car in front.

I am not a tech wiz so maybe someone else can offer a suggestion but IMO such things done after market are never quite the same as OEM. I had the RVC fitted after market as it was unavailable at time of order. Aside from that the only other thing I would consider after market would be the towbar. Again, even with this, OEM is covered by new car warranty, after market will depend on the integrety of the company fitting the item.

I would have to agree with mjw, the factory options would be difficult to do. fitting acc alone would involve a lot of work fitting the radar sensor and then calibrating the sensor, I don't think that many vw dealers in australia would have that calibration gear sitting around.

i would also check with the dealer about rvc fitment and whether it is the same rvc plus with dynamic lines according to steering angle as the factory options.

also, once they remove trim then it will never go back the same way and a i believe that many clips are designed to be fitted and never removed.

The dealer RVC has no guidance liones, does anyone know of a RVC that does?
Also, the dealer can;t get it done for a while, does anybody have a reccomendation for one in sydney?

I agree with MJW and booba - if you can, get it factory fitted and you will have the full warranty etc. without the headache of chasing the guy/s who fitted up something that you may be having trouble with.

Personally, I decided to bite the bullet when I ordered mine and do as many options factory (or dealer fitted in the case of the tow-bar) to get the car the way I liked it, such that the car was 'ready to go' upon delivery. Then again, I was prepared to wait months to get my car.

If your car is a new build (i.e. coming out of Germany, made to order) then you can always change your order up to the point where production lock-in happens (lean on the dealer!). If it is a local delivery (i.e. stock in Australia, or a car already on the ship) then you get to 'live with' what is on the car. Based on what you say (and the dealer's offer re RVC), it sounds like a local/on-ship car so you may be in a bit of a bind re RVC options . . .

Check the threads on this forum (and other VW ones) - plenty of them about people fitting up RVC on other VW models (and possibly a Passat - can't remember). That will tell you what you are likely to be in for (work, equipment, cost, headache re coding of system to get RVC on the sat-nav etc.).


Re dealer 'can't get it done for a while' - any reasons/excuses? Also, what is a while? Did they say that it would be a VW OEM camera unit that integrates with the tailgate? If not, did they give you the option of a VW unit? Will it integrate with the tailgate for a clean look/finish? Just a few questions that come to mind.

My RVC was done by Motivauto in Melb. No guidance lines but all other normal function. The guidance lines would have been nice but not a deal breaker. From memory I think Motivauto said it depends on the software the car is running. Apparently there were changes between MY11 B7 & MY12 B7 so I dare say the MY13 B7 is different again.

I also agree with booba, the less you interfere with trim removal the less rattles you will hear afterwards.
