  • 01 Passat 1.8T ...

Friend is thinking of buying one of these used, in an auto.

I know little about the Passats, unfortunately.

Is there anything that should be looked at specifically on these? Any good places to get a vehicle inspection done on a VW (instead of RACQ).

The log book is your friend. Being an 01 model, make sure it's had the timing belt done regardless of k's. I think they are due every 5yrs or 90,000k's???

I have one of those and am not aware of any major issues...

Generally, you need to look for a proper service history and that the major repairs common for that model have been carried out:

eg change of timing belt, replacement of front suspension components, auto transmission oil change, replacement of coil packs etc
