  • B7 Passat Battery Location

Hi Guys - I'm just curious as to why the car battery is located on the passenger's side of the rear boot area of my 2011 B7 Passat sedan?

Indeed, even the VE Commodore's battery is located in the same area as well.

Checked out the updated CC and its battery is located in the engine bay up the front. Interesting as the CC has the same TDI engine as the sedan.

Is there any particular reason for this?

I remember seeing the battery in a 2012 v6 wagon being in the boot.

Mine is definitely at the back. Wonder why some do & some don't?

              Ah, life...

As we grow, as we change em over we run power into the boot to power the sub-woofers... wishing the batts were back there...

Now I finally have a car with the battery in boot... and what I am worried about (eventually) wiring an RVC back to the front of the cockpit...

Batt is in the Left back of mine.... looks like a 'spensive one too , Actually you could mount a one farad capacitor just above it, and....

              No... Stop it!

All V6 B7 Passats have the battery in the boot, where as the B7 125TDI & 118TSi batteries are in the engine bay. Simple reasoning, in the V6 engine bay the ain't any room for a battery.

Sorry Riker, but not all B7 125TDI Passat's have their batteries in the engine bay - MY11 125TDI Passat has it in the boot.

Looks like this changed since MY12 production which would account for the varied responses in this thread.

RVC wiring to front will be standard, you just insert a fuse position into the switch rail and bob's your auntie.

battery in boot would be a 'spensive one I'd say. very 'spensive. i imagine fully sealed, or vented outwards. like the one's on the Mk1, Mk2 mx5's... 450-500bucks?(for teh panasonic/mazda OEM one and it is tiny). but on the plus side, they last for ages....

I didn't think VW wired accesories that arnt there, also all the basic handle cams come with long cabling, if they didnt need it they wouldn't... What PMO is I paid for Robotised Parking as the cheapest way to get RVC (it was MY11 days when ordered, by the time it was made it was three days before MY12.5 build)... So you MY13 types are annoying me...

Yep - my 11 year old MX5 battery is still cranking along like a new one. Mind you, they are simple things with nothing like the toys in modern cars.

Sorry, I was just being mega confusing. What I was just trying to say is that regardless of battery position, you will need to run rvc cable up to the front and the aftermarket looms available whether from kufatec, carsystems.pl or a bloke named maloosheck will all have power running alongside the cable to power the control unit down the arse end of the car.

You simply would just add a repair wire to the fuse box to add an additional circuit and this will hook to the positive of the rvc wiring loom..

You have two options of getting RVC. The low version which doesn't have dynamic guidelines and the high version with controller.. problem with high version is that no one has successfully calibrated it but most people don't care and it functions fine.

i have a high kit sitting in a box behind me because the MY13 has it standard now
