Passat TDI - Vibration at around 1200rpm during acceleration

As the title suggest is this a normal diesel
behaviour the car vibrates when accelerating
at around 1200rpm. Only happens at that point but once it passes that RPM
It's fine again.

Actually my issue is more of vibration at the 1200-1300 rpm. Similar to a shuddering experience.

Apologies. I had previosuly looked into the resonance issue previously because it was present on two cars I test drove. I didn't quite read your post correctly and jumped the gun.

One of the TDI's that I drove that was trying to hold 6th gear uphill at low speed which resulted in a fair amount of driveline 'shunt'. I mentioned this to the dealer at the time and they said that this car was scheduled for a DSG software 'upgrade'.

Yes it's more evident on the higher gears,
And also when you load up the engine.
What I mean by loading is if you remove your
Foot of the accelator at around 60km/h then
Slowly accelarate then that's when the vibration
Can be felt. It's always around the same Rpm range.
It doesn't happen on Sports mode only when in on Auto D.

Anyone with TDI?? I booked in a check up in 2 weeks and I am very curious to know if this is common on the Passat TDI??

Yep, mine does it too. It's just a result of too high gearing and engine labouring a bit especially in the higher gears. Stupid things drop into 6th at 67k/h, and if I'm accelerating just slightly or holding it on a slight incline where it's not enough to change back to 5th, that's when I notice it. If it's going to be prolonged, I just flick it back to 5th (love the flappy paddles for this). I spoke to my dealer to see if they could change the shift patterns, but they said: "no, that's how it's 'spose to be mate, just drive it in Sport, sport" (got to love a comedian).

someone suggested that the DSG will "learn" your driving style and modify to better match it, but I think that's a crock, IME anyway, as mine hasn't changed at all since I've had it.

Thanks Clip, this will save me a trip to the dealership. I think I may just have to change my driving style and use the manual mode a lot more if its true that this thing learns the shift patterns.
