  • R36 60,000km service

    Hi all,
Have just received a quote from Solitaire in Adelaide for the 60,000km service. The amount being $1400! Anyone have any suggestions? What do the other dealers in other States charge?

    Prices are all pretty similar.

    Remember, there's a lot to be done on a petrol-engined, DSG-equipped, and 4Motion-propelled VW at 60,000klms.

Try sending a PM to Transporter on here. He's a mobile independant VW specialist.

Answer, don't get it dealer serviced. Why pay some monkey apprentice $$$ to do a **** job?

id like to think most apprentices work under supervision and have their work checked. I know our dealership does. And its not the apprentice who gets there arse kicked if something goes wrong.

Yeah... take it to an independent VW specialist. There are a few around and they're all very good. My R36 has seen the dealer twice in the nearly four years since I've had it: once when I drove it from the showroom and once to get a little warranty work done.

I think training style depends on the dealer.

When I was at Toyota, I had 2 apprentices.
#1 was really good. We'd both work on the same car & I'd show him what to do, then watch him do it & check his work until he proved he could do that job unsupervised.
#2 was hopeless & I'm embarrassed to say that in the end I gave up trying to teach him & gave him permanent clean up duties until I could fob him off to another mech.

At BMW, the apprentices worked independantly & there work was checked afterwards. I didn't work there long enough to find out if this worked or not (left because they weren't paying me what they promised).

Time has come for my 60k service, will get it done by my trusted mechanic

Can someone advise if i'm missing anything,

                Spark Plugs
                Air filter
                cabin filter
DSG - Mechatronics was replaced approx 5000k ago, I assume oil and filter would have been replaced
Haldex & Diff oils - unsure about these?
                Engine oil & filter
                brake fluid

Also can anyone clarify whether these engines have a timing belt or chain.

                Cheers

DSG oil would be new, but unlikely that the filter was changed. Up to you on that one.

Haldex oil only, but not the diff.

Air filter is done at 45,000.

                  Brake fluid every 2 years.

                  The VR6 engines are chain-driven.

Cheers mate, pretty sure the invoice for the mechatronics stated oil and filter were replaced, might have to check the paper work.

Somewhat late, but in response to the OP, and for general info for people in Adelaide, I'd recommend AVW in Ashwin Pde Torrensville. Great, honest no BS people who know their stuff. Car repairs Torrensville
