Passat R36 Tuned

My error with the numbers I gave LINZ, I will give him the numbers first and then post here. No magic bullet here I am afraid

Ok it appears we do a little better than others on torque which surprises me but maybe the numbers above come from tuning boxes which struggle to compete against a proper tune. LINZ BHP is now 238Kw and torque 390Nm. Once again my error on the numbers I gave him. The reality is results from ECU tuners should not vary that much, whilst the quality of tune varies significantly the levels tuned to, on paper at least, will be vary similar. So, when choosing go on reputation ( yes mine has just been dealt a blow ), customer referrals, price, make sure you can be put back to original stock, Warranty on your engine and money back guarantee period. On the last we offer 60days, I have come across one that offers 7 days - not very confident in their product I say!!

I would not even consider a tune unless I were also getting before and after dyno runs. If the tuner were also doing the dyno, I'd probably even get an extra 'before' run done elsewhere, for obvious reasons. Call my cynical.

You are cynical!

R36 is hard work, APR don't bother, says a lot to me. The one I looked at, lost power according to the dyno, yet felt better on the road.

I would beg to differ. We have done a load of R36 now and drivability gains are excellent. Throttle response is far superior and fuel economy is good as well.
Just because APR doesnt do them, doesnt mean they are not worth doing.
Just read the comments on the 2 guys here that APTuning has tuned.
How is that not good feedback?

The improvement didn't warrant the cost, without getting into a big discussion about it. It was a bit quicker and a bit more flexible, just not good enough bang for buck IMO.

This is the great thing about a money back guarantee, you have plenty of time to look at it, if you don't like it then back to factory and money back easy. As long as you get long enough to look at it properly then how can you lose? In regard to cynic's all good they keep us honest

I have a V6 MY12 Passat. Is it a similar tune? As far as I know the only difference is gearing between mine & an R36.

I've had mine chipped and while I'm happy with it I have to agree with you.
Chipping a NA only achieves minimal benefits but they make the car more enjoyable.
Would I do it again? Possibly not

I've had mine chipped and while I'm happy with it I have to agree with you.
Chipping a NA only achieves minimal benefits but they make the car more enjoyable.

if anyone is doing an R36, my advice is a before and after dyno before paying for your software. we have had several on a dyno, and seen them go backwards in power and torque with different software. if throttle response is what you are after, a "Sprintbooster" or similar variable resistor will do that without modifying the engine software.

always log timing pull and air intake temps on the dyno, happy to see some independent results though!

Not sure I would ever recommend a variable resistor on any car i care about but I take you your word on the quality of the brand you mention. Chucking more fuel at it is a simple answer but is likely to put your engine at risk. Always happy to be judged by dyno results.

David, have you ever actually run one of these 3.6 FSI NA cars on a dyno & see what they do in standard form? Passat CC runs the same engine & similar map. (please feel free to post what dyno's you have done), and do you know what the differences are in the timing tables between ours & the Euro version ECU's?

Can either APT or the people that bought the APT tune post some dyno figures as 18kw is huge gain from a NA engine!
