And you definitely have the 3.6l V6 not the older 3.2l V6? I did a stint from Melb to Albury & back which is about 700 klms round trip & got high 8's at best but even that took quite a bit of driving to get down to that mark.
Yeah im sure . I bought my B7 2011 Passat 3.6l V6 earlier this year as a demo...on my work route, the average trip is usually easily under 8.5l/100km and that's with me not being afraid to hit the accelerator.
If I drive conservatively, its usually around the 7.5l/100km
Eeeeesh, i have now had my car for 2700km and its economy is worse than the early days... probably coz i am enjoing the car... but I am back to an old route to work (after a secondment) and where I used to get 13's on a two tonne awd 3.5l Kluger, i get 13.5 in this... that car was rated 11 L combined, this one is meant to scrape in under 10...
Lucky I enjoy this one

Having a Gap Year!!!!
what next?... what next?
Not sure if it's a VW thing but I decided to calculate fuel usage when refilling and noticed on more than one occasion the MFD readout is usually about 0.5L/100km optimistic. By the way we average about 10L/100km, that's mainly with the misses driving to work. I assume the B7 Passat has the same gearing as the R36 which I find 6th gear is quite short which doesn't help fuel consumption on the open road. Still an improvement over my GTR which I've got down to 13L/100km on a similar run but have also very easily doubled that.
I actually found the opposite. When refuelling my manual calculation was better than MFD by around 0.5 l/100 klms.
I think the R36 has higher gearing at least in 6th gear. My B7 revs around 2,000 rpm at an indicated 100 kph.
For the record I get around 11.8 l/100klms with around 30% freeway driving.
