Passat Alltrack availability in Australia?

The couple I bought my GTI off in SA had ordered a Passat Alltrack to replace it... The bloke said VW had quoted "Mid next year". Hope that doesn't blow out for him.

My dad is also toying with the idea of getting one to replace his Subaru Outback. He actually does give the Subaru a run offload though, as far as it will go. How does The Passat handle offroad? Mostly very badly corrugated unsealed roads.

I was told in November that if I placed an order I would receive it in May/June. Luckily they had one fitting my specs due to be built in November.
Only 27 more sleeps until I pick it up!!!

I'd expect that the clearance would be the main issue, especiallynow the outbck doesn't have low range to distinguish itself. From my GenIV outback experience versus my Scout (yes, not alltrack, but..) the Subaru has a more compliant suspension, the VAG more controlled. That said, I'd probably choose the Suby if regular corrugations were an issue- until the front suspension bushes wear out at least.....

Thanks mate. He tends to do a trip to Innaminka in outback SA a few times a year, so it's pretty rough. Not outrageously rough as the Outback is still is not a hardcore offroader but it gets a workout.

Perhaps if he falls in love with the Passat, could he get a ride height raise and better offroad suspension to help?

Yeah, I know it's only been a month since I ordered, but I'm already like a little kid waiting for Xmas to come around.

Anybody know how the VW production runs work? Is there a place where I can look up when, say, they build a batch of RHD Alltracks? So I can mentally add 2 months on the boat and then make myself a sort of Adventcalendar? (the last 10 windows or so would each have a digit/letter of the VIN )

Argh! Can't stand it...

Provided there's no issues on the dealers part i'll be picking up the Alltrack this Saturday. Can't wait!

Actually when did you order it? Or are you taking one off the lot without custom options?

And seriously, grats! I'm still actually waiting to see my first one on the road. Still rare as hen's teeth.

Well just had an interesting few hours with a NSW VW Dealership!

I was told 2 weeks ago that someone was going to contact me this week to arrange payment and collection. In my head I said i'd give them until today, Wednesday to contact me. Well here we are and still no call (Alarm bells start ringing).

I call the guy I bought the car off and no answer. Left a message and within 10 mins get a call from the VW sales person in charge of my account and am told that the car isn't there yet and that he's not sure if the car will arrive by this Saturday. WHAT?! I had a feeling that this was going to happen, I've been chasing them for updates for most of the time rather than them updating me.

I try to stay as calm as possible and express my displeasure and disapproval. He is apologetic and says he'll followup and get back to me within a few hours.

Normally this wouldn't worry me too much I mean if one has to wait an extra week for a car that's fine. But I bought the car from this dealership because it was going to be made available to me by this weekend, my wife's 30th birthday. So as you can imagine I am furious. I mean I placed the order and paid my deposit in early November and the car has been in the country since early September (according to Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics - worldwide ocean transport, inland services, supply chain solutions, terminal services).

I then get a call from the Dealership GM apologising for the lack of communication and informing me that the car is in transit and due at their yard tonight and that everything is being done to ensure that the car will be detailed and ready for delivery Saturday. Talk about cutting it close. How can it take 2 months to transport a car from Brisbane to Sydney???

Fingers crossed it all works out but so far my colonoscopy has been a more pleasurable experience. (jk, i've never had one)

I'd be furious as well, mate! Especially if it's for special occasion!

Already worried what all will go wrong for our car. Through the leasing company I specified no later than May 01 '13 but I know that's optimistic unless "our" specific build was already running off the assembly line. Question is just how much later will it be?

Hope they get you your wife's birthday present in time, mate! Fingers crossed!
