Broken exhaust mount on 2ltr turbo

We have a 2ltr Turbo 2007 Petrol Wagon. Last week the exhaust broke free from the Turbo mount and landed on the brake cable. The cable melted and instantly rendered the breaks useless. My wife was driving with our 2 small children in the car, this could have been deadly had she not been driving up hill.
Any one else experienced this issue? Our VW expert has never seen it.

The same happened to me - it was New Years eve 2010. I was overtaking a Hyundai Getz heading to Davenport in TASSIE and had to be back at work in Brissy in 2 days

Thankfully ours didn't damage anything else, we drove it carefully to Brisbane in a very loud passat.

If you search passatworld.com or even vwvortex you'd find it seems to be a passat thing.

Glad to hear the family is OK though. We found a stock mk6 GTI cat/downpipe and it was an easy swap, just need to trim it down about 30mm.
