Iphone connection cable

Hi, I'm a new passat owner and took the passat for it's first road trip this weekend. I tried connecting my iPhone to the stereo via the the glove box connection.
The stereo says it does not recognize connection.

Now do I connect my iPhone with my standard USB cable that came with the phone or do I need some special cable??

You need to buy a special cable for the iphone. I believe they're a bit under $100 from VW. I heard a rumour they're cheaper from Audi. They're obviously a lot cheaper from ebay.

Most dealers are quite happy to give them for free. Just gotta ask them (nicely). I asked my dealer about mine and he said he'll throw it in for free

My dealer threw one in for my iphone.
I just plug it in and it works, the phone says it is not optomised or something but I just ignore that and play any song on my itunes and charging the phone.
I think they charge $100 for the cable!!!!
You should be able to get one on ebay or the like for less $$$.

Hi thx for the quick responses. I did ask the dealer and she said it was only a $5 cable that I need to buy. So no offer from the dealer.
Given the final driveway price I got maybe she wasn't willing to give anything else.

I'll check eBay, but would be nice to have it now as I'm going back home tomorrow.
