  • P0101 error @ 3 months old ?

    Hi Guys,

Had a engine light come up on the car yesterday but it drove just like normal, only needed to get back from the shops, less than 2 mins. When I started the car this morning the light was still there, so I called VW Roadside Assist.

They checked and it was a P0101 Air flow issue, he reset the code which cleared the light, and it seems to drive exactly like normal.

Getting it to the dealer is a bit of a hassle for me, should I just wait and see if it re-occurs or get it looked at ASAP ?

    Thanks
    Paul

Well you have done the right thing & had roadside look at it so the issue would have been logged. Did roadside advise you to get it to the dealer ASAP...? If not I would just wait & monitor if the light appears again, if it does then to the dealer it should go to cover all bases...

....I hope it does'nt mean you drove to the shops only less than a 2 minute drive away, naughty, use those legs. But I assume you stopped in from further afield.

The light re-appeared today roadside assist checked and it's the exact same code.

Car now booked in with dealer for Monday. They tell me it's OK to drive it as is, it's not running rough, until I see them on Monday.

So they have confirmed I have an air flow issue. They looked for an hour but couldn't resolve it, they are now also not able to clear the engine light error until it's resolved.

As the mechanics couldn't estimate how long it would take to fix I'm now booked in again on Friday this week so they can have the car the whole day.

So they had the car all day, and apparently struggled to communicate with the computer. They searched for an air leak, but weren't able to find anything. After updating the software they reset the code and now I wait and see.

I can see another visit to the dealer coming up.

Check engine light is back on, I'm not surprised. Time to phone the dealer again.

Over the weekend the engine light decided to just go away, but as I was already booked in to the dealer for Monday I still left it with them to see if they could fix it.

So it was in with the dealer all day Monday, they couldn't find any issues, updated some software, cleared the code.

To my surprise (NOT) the engine light has appeared again this morning. This is getting very frustrating, this shouldn't be happening in a vehicle this new and expensive.

I'm tempted to just ignore the light and see if it goes away, the risk is what if I damage the engine, because I'm assuming it's the same issue.

Anyone got any ideas on what I could do ?

                    Thanks

Mate, I reckon as VW has advised there was an air flow issue & done work to remedy that & then subsequently told you there is no further problem with the warning light being on they have acknowledged that their own diagnostics cannot find an issue therfore suggesting there is actually nothing wrong. This being the case it is reasonable to assume on your part that if the light comes back on it means there is no problem needing attention. Unless VW tells you 'yes come back if the light appears again' then they are basically inferring there is now no issue. Now don't take this as gospel just a point of discussion of which I have a few on this.....

Another point, short of this constantly doing your head in just take it back whenever the light appears, cover your bases mate. Have they ever mentioned over sensative sensors (if that is possible) or replacing any sensors..?

                        Goods news, I hope.

I'm not entirely sure of the terminology or if I'm describing it properly, so be nice guys.

The dealer had the car for 3.5 days this week and appear to have found and fixed the problem. They showed me a photo of an o-ring that had been crimped/creased when being installed in the factory. This o-ring is used in a join somewhere in the air intake plumbing, the crimp/damage meant that a tiny amount of unfiltered air was entering the system and affecting the pressure. It wasn't until they lifted the o-ring out that the damage could be seen, as it was on the underside.

Fingers crossed this long running saga is now over.

                        Cheers
