Hi, I'm new here and have just purchased a demo Passat 118 (new shape). I have a few questions:

I can't set the left rear view mirror to dip on reversing. Is this only a feature of higher end passats or am I missing something?

To play MP3 music from external storage, is there any difference between music on a USB stick and SD card? Will it only access music by the way the folders are saved on the media, or is it clever enough to search by artist, album etc?

The engine sound is a bit more pronounced than I expected - sort of like a diesel but quieter. When I test drove a Feb 2010 passat wagon I didn't notice that sound. Could that be because the older one had run in more (it had done 11000kms, mine has done 4500kms). The dealer told me that the older one had the same 118 engine, but could it have been the older 147 unit?

Otherwise I'm very happy wih the car. As I get to grips with it I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Yes - this is part of the 'memory adjustment' feature, which is standard only on the V6, and optional on the rest, as part of the electric memory seat option pack.

Access method is the same for both USB and SD, but there is no search by title/artist/album function - you can only browse through the files and folders the way they are stored on the media. If you want it to be searchable, I think you need to connect an iPod/iPhone, and search from there - I'm not sure if it's possible to control the i-device from the RCD-510.

I'd hope it will get quieter as it runs in.

I have the same engine in the old shape. I can hardly hear mine at idle or cruising around. Under load you can just hear it .. but its nothing like a diesel sound. More like a quiet version of the gti.

        Thanks for the responses.

Pity about the dipping rear view mirror, it is one feature I would have appreciated. And one that's standard on the accord euro lux.

I've tried the MP3s off a USB stick. Not bad but you have to be clever with saving folders, eg mix will only randomly play songs from the current folder, not all folders.

At idle the car is very silent. The other day I was convinced that it had stalled and I prodded the accelrator only to find the car lurch forward. The sound I'm talking about is only under load, so probably normal. I really wonder if the other one I tried was a 147. It was a Feb 2010 car, I assumed that they had stopped making them then.
