Keeping the R36 past 3 years warranty

Hi All,

I love my R36 so much that I've decided to keep it for a lot longer than 3 years. I've never done this with a new car before, and this being my first VW I'm a bit lost in things I should be talking to the dealer about before the factory warranty expires in June (I do have 2 year extended warranty through my lease company).
I've had the one recall I know of completed which was for the battery cable, my sat nav now works in area's it previously didn't, and my DSG mechatronics unit is being replaced in a few weeks but apart from that and 2 minor nigglies that will be sorted shortly (rear suspension creak, lines in the RNS screen) the car has been pretty much flawless.

What does everyone normally do when their VW's get to this age?

Not sure what your lease warranty covers but I have just purchased the VW 3 year new car extended warranty, which is supposed to be exactly like the factory warranty. Just for a bit of piece of mind.

Wow, it's hard to believe that it's nearly been three years. I guess I'll be keeping mine too. There's nothing else out there that I'd like to replace it with.

I've just had a look at the VW extended warranty, and my biggest concern has been unfounded: there doesn't appear to be any requirement for a dealer to service the car. Other than that I can't be bothered reading the whole policy thoroughly at the moment to compare it with the new car warranty...

Yep, i will be keeping my R36 beyond three years as well, nothing else out there that is worth switching to.

It's good to hear you guys are still happy with the car after 3 years, I've only recently acquired mine and so far so good. Do you guys recommend any Dealerships in Sydney. Will probably be getting mine serviced at my trusted mechanic but just incase any warranty work comes up it'll be good to hear your experiences.

Cro you mentioned your mechatronics unit is being replaced, did the dealership make things difficult or was it a straight forward process.

Bit of a weird one actually...
I had a bad service experience, where I had the 75k service and a couple of weeks later my front brakes were metal on metal. Naturally I kicked up a stink and the service manager who also had an r36 drove my car and noticed the jerkiness of the DSG. He ended up writing a letter for me to take to another dealer (more conveniently located to me). This new dealer said they had ordered a mechatronics unit for me.

I never really thought there was a problem, always thought its meant to be like that and adjusted my driving style accordingy. Actually I'm a bit apprehensive about getting it replaced, I hope the performance isn't affected.
