  • Price Drops on VW MY2011 Passat launch?

    Hi all,
I'm looking very closely at buying an MY2010.5 VW Passat 125TDI Highline.

The current pricing, without any factory options over the existing Highline pack, is about $45-48k on-road.

Anyone care to speculate what the run-out pricing might be once the MY2011 models are launched in the next couple of month?

An interstate dealer I spoke to today was extremely keen to get my sale. To the point where he was offering to pay for my plane ticket to pick up the car!

    Interested to hear people's thoughts

What ever the discount it will be less than the difference when you go to sell your MY2010.5 over an MY2011. Like Holden giving $1000 discount for a 2010 plated car. Look what a 2008 vs' a 2009 plated car sell for. Keeping the car 10 years, makes little difference but sell it within 5 years and you will pay.

    Check www.redbook.com.au

    MY09 2008 $33,500 - $37,000
    MY09 2009 $35,000 - $38,000 Same Model Year but a $1,500 drop
    MY10 2009 $36,600 - $40,100
    MY10 2010 $37,400 - $40,900 Same Model Year but a $800 drop

With the new model being released expect a greater drop between the MY10 and MY11. I would wait.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking as well. Hopefully there's still a few decent ones around.

Thanks for the redbook breakdown, that puts things into perspective.

I guess one thing I'd love to know is how VW dealers have treated new model releases in the past? Do they do run-out sales? Do they deeply discount old models?

As an aside, I know it's due in Q2, but do we know anything more about a launch date on the MY11 Passat?

Honestly, i never trust prices from Red Book. They are a tonne of under priced information.

Any Dealer Members have any details on the launch / pricing? We are considering a new family car soon as well and the MY11 Passat is on our radar!

So I finally managed to get the wife and kids around to some dealerships today to look at cars. The local VW dealer only had 3 Passats in the whole lot:
            1 new FSI-4Motion
            1 demo MY10.5 FSI 4Motion Highline
1 MY08 125TDI which was burried in behind a bunch of cars.

So while we didn't get to go for a drive of anything, we did get to sit in the Highline pack. Very nice!

The dealer I spoke to also said that the new MY11 Passats are due around the end of April / early May, and they had some new fancy engine that shut-down at traffic lights.
            No comment on pricing though.

After all of this, the wife discovered an '05 ML500 Merc in one of the lots and I practically had to restrain her from handing over her credit card for a deposit.
