I've had my Passat since November and I love it! I certainly will never go back to petrol, at least that's the way I feel now. I guess by now you've had yours delivered.
As for the Common Rail TDIs I would expect them when the Passat gets a facelift in 2009MY so here by either early/mid 2009 or late 2009 as 2010MY Passat.
As to whether you should wait for the new tech its up to you but you may not like the facelift.
WARNING all info on when CR TDI makes it in the Passat is speculative so not 100% accurate
Just wondering if the facelift is due in Australia? I was talking to my dealer about this, he thinks its for the US market as the current shape Passat is not due for a facelift. This is not good news especially for those who've pre-ordered R36s for delivery in Sept 08. Seems silly for VW to do it so soon.
I may be wrong but hasn't the current body style been around since mid/late 06? If so a 3 year life is not that uncommon? Being new to the VW's, was the 06 an update on the previous chassis or was it a complete retool?
You could be right although the current shape was released in Europe in 2005 and came to Oz a year later. So it may take 6-12 months for the facelift to get here.....i.e. 2010. That's still only 18months from R36 deliveries
Quite sure the current shape wasn't a facelift from the old car. 4 yrs seem to be relatively short for a design lifecycle compared to the Toureg....I think it was over 5 years before the Toureg had some work done.
The current model (3C or B6, depending on where you read the info) was a completely new development (engine orientation - transverse vs. longitudinal - is one of the major changes that comes to mind) and was introduced in 2005 in Europe as the successor to the B5.
If I remember correctly a "facelift" (i.e. cosmetic changes) is planned for 2009 in Europe. The basic shape should not change.
Mind you, the introduction of CR diesels (at least for the 103 kW version) is imminent so there's some major reshuffling under the skin.

Michael

Noticed some initial pics of the facelift......artists' impression I presume? I think I prefer the current look. The new headlight design seem odd but maybe it takes a bit of getting used to.
Just double-checked for "pics" of the update, and I have to say that the front doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the car - too square for Passat (while fine for the SUV-style vehicles).
Just my $A 0.02!
