  • is it good deal? 07 MY08 Passat.

    Hi guys,

    I'm considering 07 MY08 Passat 125k TDI (49,000Km) at 28K driveaway.

    it's just over factory warranty.

so I've asked about extend warranty and dealer recommend swann insurance at $1800. (3 years or 200,000km excess $100)

and it had 3 scheduled service once in a year. but log book show next service will commence in 6 months. is it normal?

what should I check before sign?

    Thanks in advance.

Extended warranty can be had at around $1300 with careful negotiation.
forget about third party warranty especially when it costs more then the manufacturer's

I asked at Berwin VW and they quoted $2.2K for 3 years and it is an extension of the FACTORY warranty - not a 3rd party INSURANCE like Swann insurance et al offer.

$28K seems a keen price IMO

Third party warranty is not worth the paper it is written on. Major repairs have a rather small $$$ limit compared to what the real cost of the repair. For example $2.5k for transmission. Yet most VAG boxes if they fail cost upwards of $6k. The "warranty provider/insurer" can also refuse to pay for many and varied reasons.

The only reason dealerships sell them is they make good advertising and very good gm.

Diesel and DSG = possible costly repair.
