  • DNA Tuning R36 Special Christmas Offer

    Greetings R36 owners,

As some of you may be aware, DNA Tuning have a potent ECU upgrade available for the 3.6L VR6 engine in the R36, lifting peak power from 220kW to 235kW and peak mid range torque from 350Nm to 375Nm.

I have noticed there are many R36's here in Melbourne, and as such I thought I might try and offer something a little different.

DNA Tuning Australia's current promotional price of $980 for the ECU upgrade is already the most competitively priced software upgrade in the market, but here is an offer to further sweeten the deal.

Until the end of this year, DNA Tuning will provide a further $100 discount for the R36 upgrade if you bring another friend along with an R36. Both cars will receive their upgrades for just $880 each (normally $1180). This is a combined saving of $600.

To make things more interesting, there will be a special further offer that will only be presented to customers upon getting their car upgraded.

So if you're looking to get that bit extra out of your car, please contact me today to arrange a cost and obligation free appointment to discuss how DNA Tuning can benefit you!

Indeed; DNA Tuning UK have worked hard on the R36 to provide the biggest and smoothest gains available from the 3.6. Below are raw uncorrected figures attained at the wheels, units are Nm and kW.

gead, I don't think any of my R36 customers so far have been from this forum, but I would appreciate if you provided feedback to fellow forum users if you get yours upgraded! Remember there is always a 14 day money back satisfaction guarantee; if you aren't pleased with it, you can simply return to stock and get your money back; but I'm sure you will be pleased with the gains. =)

I could be keen. This has probably been covered already somewhere but what are the warranty implications? I noticed in the link you talk about another box $280. What exactly does this do?

The SRS-II unit is simply a device that allows you to switch between stock and upgraded ECU programs. This is primarily to cater for interstate customers, but it can be advantageous for those who wish to have such functionality, which in some cases may come in handy if making a warranty claim for instance.

In reality, with the R36, being an NA engine, it would take extensive data logging for a VW dealership to detect any difference in the ECU; all DNA Tuning ECU upgrades retain your original ECU ID/revision codes and therefore standard routine services simply would not pick up any differences. On turbocharged models, it is easier to log the air flow/manifold pressure and see that the ECU is requesting above-stock levels of boost, however in an NA car they would have to log the ignition timing back to back with a stock model whilst performing wide open throttle runs in order to identify any differences.

As such, for the R36 at least, the warranty implications are negligible; regardless, for customers in Melbourne, DNA Tuning provide the service of temporarily reverting your ECU to stock for a small fee, in case you ever need to make a warranty claim on something powertrain related and would just like the peace of mind of knowing there is no possibility of rejection.

I hope that explains the warranty scenario better! Please keep the questions coming; I'm more than happy to oblige.

Indeed there is; pricing on the 3.2 V6 passat upgrade is the same cost as that of the R36; in fact the gains are similar; DNA claim +11kW and +27Nm of torque for the 3.2. It uses the same engine management system as the R36, and given that the VR6 design is not all that different this does not come as a surprise.

I'm more than happy for a 3.2 and an R36 to get their tunes together to take advantage of this offer.

Alright, I'm liking the sound of it. John, where are you guys and what's your contact number? I can't find it anywhere on your website.

One last question, not that I'm all that concerned about it. But what impact will this have on fuel economy?

It should be under the DNA Tuning Australia dealer; apologies the site is managed by DNA Tuning UK and I have to admit it is not the most user friendly. My contact number is 0403191338; I am based in the South East, but my services are predominantly mobile. I am not based in a workshop as such.

Fuel economy is theoretically improved due to better combustion efficiency from the advanced ignition timing; in reality however the improvements are small and therefore should not be a buying factor - fuel consumption definitely definitely does not get worse however.

Well if you and adrock are both keen to get your R36's upgraded - I can organise an appointment together with both of you to answer your questions and to provide some documentation for you to review. I have sent both of you PM's, cheers.

I'm interested but because I'm in WA I need the SRS-II unit.
I know it's something I'll never use again and it will just take up space in the glovebox.

You can save the costs on the SRS-II by sending your ECU to me to get reprogrammed - factoring in express postage, total turnaround time would be about 3 to 4 days.
