Joining the queue of Passat owners with injector problems (TDI wagon carked it)

Driving along battery light came on then engine fault lighted car stalled I restarted it then it stalled again kept turning over but won't fire racv came out said battery is fine also have a full tank of fuel said must be computer or ecm ironically happened within about 500m of essendon vw went up there they can't look at it for 2 weeks! So its going to bayford epping they were helpful on the phone glad I have extended warranty

Umai no was running fine had driven about 15km stopped at lights then battery light came on then stalled restarted ok but stalled as soon as I put it into drive again caught once but died straight away mfd said engine fault turns over freely and looks like it is getting fuel racv guy said battery is fine oil level is fine and full tank of fuel, getting towed to bayford epping in the morning I suspect u may be right re injectors its a 2007 103kw pd tdi 45000km

off to bayford epping this morning said they will look at it today and give me a call a lot more helpful than essendon volkswagen won't be going back there again. Will get a rental car under extended warranty whats the bet re injectors, computer or fuel pump??

as suspected umai was right - injectors.. hope to have by the end of the week pretty crap for 3.5 years old and 45,000km

Depending on what engine code it is, it's pretty normal. I probably replace at lest one a month.

What engine code is most likely to have this fault?

The BMR 125kw TDI unit injection ones. Same motor that was fitted to MK5 Golf GTs.

mine is the 103kw PD version, have they sorted the issue so the replacements won't have this fault?

Not sure. They're an exchange part, through VW. I can only presume they've changed something internally with the solenoid to improve longevity.

We've had a Golf GT that has done another 40,000klms since it's had an injector replaced without fault.

thanks umai here is hoping so the issue is with the solenoid failing? Literally had no warning was running fine prior to stalling... At least it happened while I was stopped.. Should VW be doing a recall or only isolated cases?

The problem is not unique to VWs.

A Focus diesel with 60,000ks needed 4 injectors, $approx 1400.00 EACH.....
