R36 body flex - door seals squeaking

Guys,
When driving over an uneven surface such as entering a service station driveway at an angle (where driverway meets road) the door seals around the car are squeaking, presumably caused by the vehicle body flexing.

I've never heard/noticed this in previous cars with stiffened suspension such as Liberty GT. Do others experience noticable squeaking with their R36's? (R36 10.5 Wagon, 6,000ks)

The R36 body is apparently is one of the most rigid/tight chassis around. I can hear my chassis flex everytime i go up my driveway on an angle. Shouldn't be a problem should it?

On that of that, since yours is a wagon, i suppose you have a longer chassis than the sedan version which already has a long wheel base. You should hear more flexing as you go up slopes at an angle.

Fixing creaking door seals

From reading this thread there seems to be two issues. The B pillar clicking and the door seal creaking. The door seal creaking drove me insane on my GTI MkVI and I was also very disappointed that such an expensive German car would have this fault.

I tried Dupont Krytox, it works for a month then needs (a very messy) top up. Don't bother with it. I bought Gummi Pflege (from WaxIt, Melb) and after 3 applications on all door seals right around the car, no more creaking from any of them!! The car is blissfully silent and it has lasted 4 months now.

I have also finally been able to polish out my messy door frames and this didn't make the creaking in the rubbers return. Hope the fix works for those of you with the creaking door seals. Don't be sucked into buying Krytox from VW at $70 a tube - it will cost you that much every quarter.....

mine does this as well. Never thought much of it because it will generally only do it when going up a fairly steep driveway/doing crazy angles so it won't scrape...

had this problem fixed on Monday. Go to your local VW dealer and ask them to lubricate your door seals with a dry lubricant. it looks like a thick crayon and takes all of 5 minutes. Makes the world of difference!!!!

Phew. Sounds like the squeaking is a common occurrence - hopefully this amount of flex is within design tolerances. I personally would have thought the amount of flex required to cause a squished rubber door seal to overcome friction and slide against the frame to cause squeaking would have meant too much flex...

well the two are linked but not 100% dependent. My suggestion makes the squek go away BUT what level of flex is too much?

Phew!!! Glad I found this thread. My R36 sedan (9,000km) started seriously creaking about 2 weeks ago exact at described, B pillar, and door seals sounds like around the C pillar as well. And now I hear it every time there is a transition in the road or some times on take off or stops when there is weight transfer from front to back or vice verser. It was getting really worried about chassis flex. I get the seals lubed and see what happens. Cheers.

Mine also creaks over driveways etc. I will ask VW to do the crayon method.

We get this too.... dealer lubed the seals as others have described and it settled for a few weeks before coming back. Interesting that our Jetta based on similar architecture has never had this problem over the same inclines.

I've not been impressed with the lack of door 'rigidity' on either my 3-door GTI or the R36 sedan.

Yes, the lubrication of the seals does get rid of the noise, but why does it happen in the first place?

No other car I've had, whether 2-door or 4 door has had this amount of flex.
