Is there a simple process to reset the service reminder function in the '02 Passat'?

I recently discovered that only a VW dealer can reset this feature, is this correct?

I do not intend to have my dealer do my oil changes.

Is there any help out there?

Push the right button in on the cluster, and turn the key to 'on'. Service will flash up and blink, then turn the left button clockwise, and hold it there until Service disappears.

If you have LongLife (flexible) service interval enabled this method will disable it and will set it back to the fixed service interval (time/distance). But then I heard that oz cars do not come with the flexible service interval option at all. The way to find out is to look at your PR numbers on the label in the boot of the car and see if any of the numbers read QG1. Another way is to look at your oil pan, usually there should be an oil quality sensor with wires located on the opposide side of your drain plug. If yes then you have the flexible service (which may or may not be enabled in oz) and the only way to reset this correctly after the service is with a VAG Com cable.

More info can be found on ross-tech site.

Let me know if you need more info on how to with vag com.
