  • R36 headlights sealed?

    Hi All,

Are the R36 headlights sealed? or can the housings be opened up?
I'm thinking of going darker but does this have an adverse affect on the lights?
If it's all sealed I guess it's a mute point.
    Any help appreciated

    cheers

    They will be sealed.
The older model headlights used to alow you to pry them open when warmed in the ocven to inhibit the sealant.

VW cottoned on to this and now use heat resistant sealant so unless you have a dremmel and wish to do it that way, no there is no way and you would have to get some from ecstuning/oemplus/tmuning etc.

Note, make sure they are suitable for RHD vehicles if you do.

Is that meant to be a deliberate rhetorical question?

Of course going darker will mean less light.

What I was going to do is get some headlight covers that can be taken off at night and tint them...

No Rocket I legitimately wanted to know if the majority of the silver is a cosmetic colour lining rather than part of the reflective quality of the headlights (based on seeing other vehicles with 'colour coded' headlights on their higher spec models - Mazzer for example)
Seeing as this isn't my field I thought I'd ask and see what the answer is, I'm guessing it can't / shouldn't be done so I'll can the idea.

Edit, just realised the R36 would come with Bi-Xenons and as such cannot be updated to the blacked out hella style lights.

There was a thread a week ago on a joey mod for the mk5 bi-xenon lights but it seemed like a lot of effort so i would say not to bother.

These look like the ones you are after.

Note these are for the American market and may not be suitable for the Bi-xenon equipped R36.
You would have to contact OEM Plus.
