  • Rain Sensor Wipers

    Hi

How are people finding the rain sensing wipers on their Passats? My wipers never seem to respond correctly to the intensity of the level of rain.

I complain every time i am at VW, they originally changed/reloaded some software which seemed to fix the problem short term. Then they changed the sensor which was again a short term fix, last two times they told me there is a new type of sensor and again short term fix.

Anyone else experience the same problem. Never had an issue with other makes of car.

    Thanks

Do yourself a favour, and tap on the outside of the windscreen with your finger, where the sensor is (Right where the rear view mirror is). Do this with low UV source, and the faster you tap, the more frequently they'll come on. If the frequency of the tapping Vs the frequency of the wiper operation isn't obviously consistant, then yeah, there could be an issue.

I can generally tell when it's raining and find it easy to determine if the wipers are needed, as well as what sort of speed they should be set to. I therefore have no use for the automatic wiper feature on my car.

You are joking right? That's not how the sensor works...... It works by means of visually "seeing" the water on the windscreen over the sensor. Don't believe me? Go poor water of the sensor from the roof.

You're right in regards to VAG vehicles.

Others are known to be based on acoustics, which appears to be even less effective. Who wants their wipers spring into life in a locust plague?

Rain sensing wipers, headlight height adjuster and tyre pressure monitors are completely useless to me... I wish they were optional so that I could get sunroof instead.

I disagree, love all three features. Headlight Adjustment is required by law for Xenons, TPMS (non ABS Based) is great, and the rain sensing wipers work a treat - though I always remember to turn them off on long trips to country NSW - nothing worse than bug guts being smeared all over the window if the wipers come on!!

I find if you fiddle with the tab on top of the wiper stalk it will fix the issues you have described.

have rain sensing wipers in our jetta and tiguan. i find that they work well. it took me a while to "tune" the jetta ones in and get the right setting but now they work well. will do the tiguan over the next few weeks also.
the only issue i have with them is that for me they seem to go from intermittent to the 2nd fast speed too quick and all that is needed is the first fast speed.
