  • Blacking out

Hi - Does anyone know how one would go about replacing the chrome trim (around windows, etc) on my R36 to black? Would the chrome need to be painted, or do you think there would be OEM parts for this? And if the latter, would this be a nightmare ($$$) of a job to get done?

I like the standard chrome look, but think black trim might look a little meaner against my black paint.

    What do you think?

A "murdered out" passat would look awaesome!
You could try taping the chrome trim off, sanding it back and painting it.

I dont know of any replacement trim in black but check oemplus, ecstuning, tmtuning etc to see if they have any.
    Also check ebay.

I just changed the colour of my dash and air-vent surrounds. Sand back the chrome / colour and spray. Not much too it.

There are lots of little bits that clip togeather, take some time in pulling it all apart and photograph it in stages if you want to know how it goes back together.

This came up a while ago. If you can remove all the chrome trim from the car you should be able to get it black anodised, which I reckon would look absolutely AWESOME on a black car!

That's what I'd be going for. Love the grey wheels with the chrome accent. Darker tint. Maybe throw in some headlight brows.

Okay - probably a dumb question ... say I get the OEM parts ... where would you go to get this sort of work done? Are there places that specialise in this sort of thing, or is this the sort of thing you take back to your local VW dealer service team? And where does one go to get their wheels powder coated black? Let's see what this is gonna cost

I would assume panel shop to do the work as they're the experts at pulling cars apart and putting them back together, just need to find a good one! Again Panel shop for painting/powdercoating the wheels, not sure about NSW but there's a great wheel repair/painting specialist in WA that did my Mazda wheels gloss black.

Though looked at the site and the $620 is for Bumpers and doors! add another $2K for the windows, cost you significantly less to get them painted by a panel shop!

I thought they looked a-ok on tmtuning ...

They're on sale, so I might just have to get em in and see how they look first hand.

                            I don't know about these.
Kinda makes it look tired and droopy.

If anything i would just crack open the headlight casing and paint it black too (Joey Mod)
Then re-seal it back up and you will have a different/menacing look while still retaining the agressive style of the original headlights.
