  • VW Speed Reading vs GPS Speed

Anyone noticed that there is a considerable difference between the speed shown on your GPS to the speed shown on the VW display. It is nearly 10% difference on mine with the car showing that you are travelling considerably faster than what the GPS shows. This means that the car travels 10% less than what the cars odometer displays which has a cost impact on the resale value of the car. Not happy Jan!

    Thoughts / Comments anyone ??

Already been covered a million + times.

Every newer car has an error built in to the speedometer that shows a reading about 4-8km above the actual speed to reduce liability in case of accidents.

There is some setting you can change via vagcom to get it to read the "correct" speed.
There is also a multiplier setting that can be changed to affect the distance travelled i believe (Logger would know more about it)
Alternatively you could just run different sized tyres to make up the difference.

Like has been said, covered heaps before...

Speedo reads slow. I'm doing 110kph when my speedo indicates 120kph.

I just go buy the engineering mode in the HVAC display for accurate speed.

The odometer is accurate though. No reason to worry about travelling further than you have.

        I checked my R36 and:

        Indicated 60kmh = GPS 57kmh
        Indicated 80kmh = GPS 77 kmh
        Indicated 110kmh = GPS 106kmh
