    Quick Update
    - VW told me they are going to replace the whole engine. Yup, a new donk. Not bad. But it will take 2-3 weeks from now. =(
    - They are just waiting for VW headoffice to give them the go ahead for this job as the car is 2-3 months out of warranty.
(well, if VW doesn't fix it under their warranty, I guess Toyota will have to cop the cost as they legally sold me the car)
leather, sat nav, electric seats plus all the standard equipment really nice car especially on long trips and awesome fuel economy but i don't think I'll ever go VW again,it just been a nightmare .I'm wandering if anyone on this forum had a Passat for at least a year or 20000km that didn't have any problems

good luck jakiman, mine has done 35,000km with zero problems apart from occasional drink of oil. Unfortunately any car brand had have good ones and bad ones.

Since my last post, no update yet from VW. VW here is waiting for the go ahead from headoffice but they haven't heard back yet and it has been 2 weeks since they filed the report to them! Once they get the sign to go ahead, then they order the parts, takes around 2 weeks to arrive, then another week to assemble. So I won't get my car back for at least another 4 weeks. =(

Nothing was said from the dealer to me about that incident. No apologies, so sorry's.
Toyota Headoffice did tell me it will be handled internally whatever that means.

I just want my car back.......

Welcome to my world Jakiman, since late Feb i only had my car back for a week and it had to go back, and as you said for every fault they find it takes around 4 weeks to sort it out.Looks like they don't hold any stock of parts in Australia which i don't think is going to do them any good, at least we got loan cars but as you said "I just want my car back"

Sorry to hear about that- doesn't do much for confidence in the brand, fact is with a holden or ford or toyo this would get sorted much quicker.. I guess being a 2007 mean VW can afford to put it on the backburner. another reason i plan to trade the tdi wagon when it turns 3.

                        Some progress~!

VW has approved the repair under their manufacturer's warranty and local VW service center has ordered the parts.
If all goes well, I should get the car back in 3-4 weeks time. At least something is finally being done about it.... =P

I don't see how it's VW's fault? The car is out of warranty and they had to get approval to repair it which occurred two weeks after they received the car from the used car dealer.

Yeah. All I can say is that it's just some serious case of bad luck.
Can't believe how a balance shaft will break inside the engine.

Anyways, VW has confirmed the parts have arrived and I will get my car next week.
Once the car is up and running, we will test drive and see if DSG needs looking into. (it seems to have issues during low speeds)

Dude, like so many b4- sorry to hear...

The similarities as I read this were startling... in some ways at least.
I just bought an 07 tdi t5 off a toyota dealer- turns out - using coolant. It is in getting worked on too at the moment. I too got about 4 weeks driving before it went in. My toyota dealer was far better in early relations than yours'- straight into a rav4 loaner on the same day it went into a vw service dept within the same dealer network...

BTW I hate the Rav- never buy one- take one running like a bandit as a loan car though it would seem... !

I chuckled with the comment that everything seems to come in from overseas with parts- they are looking at the same situation for me too... 60k old 07 2.5tdi and apparently it has a head gasket leak!!!!
They have sent photos of scouring on the block from machining- wondering if that should be there...

Anyways- looks like you are on the right track- it's a shame it had to start out that way, I can say that it sucks enough without the adversarial begining you had.
We shall wish each other luck...
