  • Electronic Park Brake Fault

    Hey Guys,

Having trouble with intermittent Hand brake faults. About 1 in 10 times I get in the car and turn on the ignition and before I touch anyting I get a " Hand Brake Failure , See owners manual" on the MFD.

If I press the handbrade button the handbrake will not release. The only way I can get the handbrake off is to remove the key completely and then turn back on. Most times everything is working fine again. I have also had it where, after pulling up and to park I get the same message and I can't get the hand brake ON. Solution is the same by removing the key and re starting, I can get it to engage.

I just had the 30,000km service and mentioned the problem but they said they could not fault it?? They said there was also no errors reported in the computer. I have booked it in again for them to look at in a couple of weeks but if anyone has seen this before, I may be able to give the dealer some direction.

If I get permanently stuck somewhere I will be might pissed!

    Thanks

Hi - I had the same problem which gradually got worse. It was finally fixed by replacing the handbrake button (part # 3C0927225CREH).

We've had two also. They're $94 each. Annoying.

I sent my mother to a skid pan day for her bday (she likes this stuff), she took the passat and it was a total waste of time

Nope, sorry, bulletin was Golf, Jetta & Tiguan only, no mention of Passat. A trip to the Service Deparment I think...

                Dermot,

Could you advise when the bulletin was sent out fo the Tiguan?
Mine is due to arrive next week so i want to make sure the dealer checks the handbrake issue has been rectified.

                Cheers

But my understanding is that the bulletin was not an all out recall, it only affected specific vehicles which showed a fault, odds are, yours is not affected. I wouldnt worry, there are a million bulletins every week, if you tried to ask your dealer to cover them all he would probably crack.

Only return it if there is, but I have not personally seen one affected since they were released in 2008.
                  Cool,
Thanks for the info Dermot, much appreciated.
Won't bother them about it unless it throws a fault code.

Dont forget if you fit a new switch it wont clear the fault, nor will clearing it with a scanner. You will need to do a terminal 30 reset to do it properly.
