  • R36 bodykit on a Passat 4motion?

Just wondering if you can buy a R36 body kit from VW (i am assuming you cannot)? My reason is that if you could, i assume you would be able to take off your bumpers that are on your 4motion and replace them with R36 panels. Then you find yourself a wrecked R36, change over steering wheel, seats, wheels, brakes, or as much as you want. Then you've pretty much got yourself an R36, minus the 3.6L V6. Although, i'm assuming you cannot just buy the R36 panels because they would want to keep them exclusive to the R car owners. Much like HSV, you cant just buy the HSV kits and put them on your commodore, you actually have to have an HSV to buy the parts. Can anyone confirm this?

trade in the 4motion for an R36. quicker, easier and CHEAPER!

You think all the panels and steering wheel and wheels etc will all cost me more than $30,000? I cannot drive an R36 anyway, i am a p-plater and thus capped to 200kw.

$30,000 for the 4motion, R36 cost roughly $60,000 second hand in QLD, could probably get one for $55,000. The difference being $25,000-$30,000. So if you're saying it'll be cheaper to just buy the R36, it would have to cost between $25,000-$30,000 for all those mods.

Oh haha sorry, you were talking about the P-Plate laws, thought you were talking about my rule of how much the mods would have to theoretically cost to be cheaper than buying the R36. Yeah i know it's a ridiculous law. We cannot drive Golf 90TSI's either, because they are turbocharged and deemed 'high-powered'.

I've never heard of such stupidity in my life! When did this nonsense come in? I'm guessing it's just a backwards QLD law??? ACT isn't that stupid... Not that it affects me, but it really does show how clueless the powers that be actually are.

People kill people on the roads, NOT cars. You can do just as much damage and be just as stupid in a Hyundai Excel as you can in a 500HP V8!

Hmm been in for over a year now. I believe they have them in NSW as well. They are ridiculous. They cap the power output to 200kw, which i guess is fair enough, okay. But then they go on to say that if your car has either a turbocharger or a supercharger it is also illegal to drive as turbos and superchargers result in the car being deemed to be 'high powered'. So where it makes no sense is, i cannot drive a 90TSI Golf, but i can drive an R32! So i wrote the government a 1600word long letter explaining the stupidity of these laws.

                  And their response was?......

I only got the reply the other day. I would upload it but it is in PDF format. They said that even though small cars may have less power than 200kw, because they are light they can still achieve fast acceleration. Which doesn't answer my question in the slightest, as the R32 has a greater power to weight ratio than a GTI. And has a much higher power to weight ratio than the 90TSI. But what they did say was, they are currently reviewing the laws to take into account the actual performance of cars, not just discriminating cars because they are turbo chargers. So we will have to see what they change the laws to.

Don't do it platzie. It won't actually look like an R36 and is a bit like these twats that put "M" badges on their 318i's or "AMG" on their diesel C class !
What you should do is look for a really cool (different) kit from Oetinger or ABT Sportline or get someone to customize one for you (and get some nice wheels)
I had a Bora "back in the day" and had a custom bodykit (a mixture of Oetinger and custom front from DMD the Image), suspension, wheels etc. It looked really good and doesn't come across as try hard because it's unique (it even made some magazines).
Each to their own of course but you've got a good opportunity to make something really unique not a copy of something else.

Why would it not look like an R36? But nah i've gone off the idea now. Still deciding what car to get. I'm pretty sure i've seen your R36 around brissy too.
