Fair question... If someone posts something on a car forum about their car it is a reasonable assumption to make that they're keen for comments to be made.
As I am no less entitled to comment than anyone else, I make my comments. If I say something looks stupid low, which is what my first reply was - straight to the point, blunt, etc - it's because that's what my immediate reaction was. And there are others that agree with that comment too...
That's absolutely in no way intended to be taken personally. It's just want I thought at the time I saw something. Like if I put pink wheels on my car and was happy with them and loved the look and someone said it lookd gay. That's not saying I am gay, but that the car looks gay - and that's fair enough. Anyone is entitled to think anything they want and share their opinions with me.
I don't know anyone on here personally, but the general impression I get is that for the most part, everyone here ollectively, and individually, makes a great bunch of people. Something said about someone's car shouldn't be taken as being said about them and it's sad that some people take things that way, but I can't help that.
I think it's just when there is 10+ posts all damning the car and the direction it is going which isn't the normal for australia it looks like the guy is getting harpooned...
I don't think anyone is out there personally atttacking the guy, it is a great forum. Just don't shoot down the dare to be different guys.
As Tim said, everyone buying H&R springs, VMR wheels, APR chip and Neuspeed downpipe would get pretty boring wouldnt it...
...That's absolutely in no way intended to be taken personally. ...
If a comment is specifically about someones car (not just hte type of car etc) I would be very surprised if that person didn't take it personally! (since it's thier car, and thier modification, and thier choice after all)
rocket: i hate to think what you say when you girlfriend/boyfriend says "does my bum look big in this?"
I hope it doesnt start with "well its my honest opinion but..."

thats fair, although we have good and bad ways about commenting, stuff like, "im really not a fan" or "i dont think it looks good" is fair to write, thats ok we understand YOU dont like it, but when we ALL read, OMG THATS HORRID! THATS UGLY! YUK THIS YUK THAT!!!! it kind of upsets the owner and other people who like the car, because really.... your not that important to decide on whats ugly or nice, maybee train on how you word things when it comes to comment ya get me dawg?
Let me try to explain why I don't shoot for something like "im really not a fan" or "i don't think it looks good"... While both of those comments covey a general dislike, there is no emotional expression in those comments when they're text based and they don't have the same impact. Saying them in person, or in a group of people where body language, tone, accentuation, facial expressions, gestures and different levels of sarcasm etc all have an impact makes a huge difference. But the medium we have here is text, and text only... Hence my original reply was "Stupid low looks crap! lol" which has immediate impact and conveys exactly what I think in exactly the same was as could be conveyed face to face by saying something with less impact but instead relying on the physical associations.
Also, while it also may not be obvious, the lol that is included is also meant to signify me laughing as I'm saying it... Now I can have a pretty whacked sense of humour which I KNOW doesn't translate to plain text. I'm not trying to say I was making a joke but the general impact on people (if you were to put this into a face to face situation) of laughter and sarcastic undertones is contagious, and in my experience both sides of this (those that like and those that dislike) could stand around laughing at each other and each others comments and being sarcastic based on their opinions. Also something the unfortunately doesn't translate to plain text.
WTF? Who's been abused? I can't see any abuse anywhere. Just a mix of people - some who like certain mods, some who don't.
i think this thread is just about what you dont like...
maybe leave the thread alone? keep opinions to yourself...the guy who owns the car doesn't want to hear your very negative comments..."damn thats a bit low" would have been sufficient.

Hope that makes sense...
but we write and read the way we talk yes? its not anopther language when we type or write? so its all the same, and YES, "too low for me" will do perfect rather than "Stupid low looks crap! lol" because, your wrong! YES stupid low looks great! but who am i to say that...
ok, personal opinions are accepted, but paying somethining out and showing no mercy "just because" is not a way to go about things
also, its people like you who piss everyone off because you explained it yourself how u pay out EVERYTHING on the forum, but bring it down a notch in person! so what do you really think in real life... yeah its ok? i wouldn't personally have it that low? yes? well how about u type it the way you see it in real life!!
i think r36's are ****, their slow compared to ANYTHING in its class and its a ****ing boat! haha! and lastly id hate to waist what? 60-70k on something that's a waist of engineering? and you got it! id say that in person too
dom
and you have a stupid uncanny sence of humor which NO ONE understands.....
