Your right there the high flow cats I got quoted and sounds about right with the 100 cell thing is approx $400 each. So with your cats Sloutch when they triggered the light on your dash did it effect the how the car ran ?
No, so far i have no problems with how the car is running at the moment. The only thing i'm worried about is the air/fuel mixture in the engine. I have yet to return to my tuner for that.
May i ask where did you get a quote for your high-flow cats?
I got my exhausts done early this year and simply had the rear mufflers replaced.
I had a set of hotdogs put in (discretely) and had a new set of larger diameter tips installed. To look at the car, you would not know it has been done as you cannot see the mufflers and the tips are only slightly bigger.
I was at the exhaust shop when they cut the mufflers off and it sounded very nice and not excessively loud with no rear mufflers at all.
When the mufflers were installed, there was a terrible drone problem. I then had them slip some inserts into the mufflers and now it sounds just right and I love it.
By the end of the year I am actually going to change the mufflers to the X-force mufflers that have the remote controlled butterfly which makes them bi-modal between stock DB and straight through.
surely that would be restricing the airflow with negative effect on performance? Modding exhaust on an na is a tricky deal. I had a 3rd liberty and spent 4k on a full custom exhaust. It sounded amazing and inccreased mid to high end power but low down torque suffered. Always a trade off in an na. But restircting the ends not gonna help.
If there is a loss of performance, I can't pick it and it would be like splitting hairs. When I say inserts, i am not talking about stuffing big corks down there. I am not looking for a performance gain nor do I want to spend $4k just to change the note of the car. Its a simple and effective way to go about it really.
I guess if I ate one less cheeseburger for dinner it would make up for the power lost
............. When I say inserts, i am not talking about stuffing big corks down there.........
My bad, just sounds like it when you say inserts. I'm just jealous because your car's bigger than mine. I've noticed that you guys here in the passat forum are so much more relaxed than the golf section and not trying to prove "how much power you can get out of a 2 litre".
I'm considering doing this but with a more substantial set of rear mufflers that hopefully just replicate the sound of the R32.
Don't want anything too loud or the dreaded drone
Spending heaps on an exhaust for this car would produce little in the way of results other than lightening my wallet IMHO

i am awaiting delivery of an arqray cat back exhaust...
not sure about the titanium tips, but the rest of it looks and hopefully sounds awesome
Its a great exhaust, the titanium tips actually look good, they were a $400 option when i bought it... you got a bargain so enjoy. Im awaiting my supersprint so we can compare...
As for exhausts on the R36, ive had both the evolve and the Arqray and they are loud and boomy for everyday driving. I use my car everyday and its just too loud. It almost makes the car useless in "D" as its need to be kept at high revs to reduce the drone. In saying that GEAD bought the arquray off me so he might be able to give a different review as i may be getting too old and fussy

Hey Gead,
Do you know the internal lay-out of the rear mufflers, as it looks like they don't have a straight-through pipe as the exit pipes are off-set from the inlets?
In my experience there are many factors in an exhaust system that can affect the sound/drone. Generally the shorter the muffler, the louder it is and more drone. Whilst long mufflers provide meatier sounds
Certainly a great looking system, very interested in your feedback.
