    Hi
I've just received email from a dealer , apparently VWA will cover 80% parts only so repair comes to $778.
When I talk about repairs done on my car since October last year I'm not talking about door seals, squeeks, rattles or gear selector chrome trim, I'm talking about major gearbox and engine problems and since October car spend 3 months at the dealers either awaiting on feedback from VW or for the parts, so in my books VW doesnt look good.My other car ,grey import from Japan,Mitsubishi Delica diesel 1996 which i owned for 5 years and never had any major problems
I've never owned Subaru myself but my mate did and it was 2001 Forester and he did 320000 with that car before it was written off, only problem he had with it was rear bearing which was done at 80000 (upgraded to Liberty bearings on both ends).

those who argue that European cars are less reliable because of the new technology should look at Lexus

So far so good with my car, approaching just on 14,500km since 30Jun10. With regards to Lexus, stepped out of an IS250 Sport Luxury to the R36, never had any trouble with my Lexus over 3 years of ownership and 100,000km.

Agree with Subaru. I have MY06 Forester with 79K on the clock and noticed that its drives smoother now compared to say, when it had 30K. I did not encounter any problem since i bought it new in 06. I hope i have the same luck as with my Golf now...

Using extra oil is normal in VWs and not a problem as such.

VW's often have cutting edge tech and hence a bit buggier. Skoda is VW components after the bugs have been ironed out, hence the high reliability.

BTW Meibus9, What novel technology does Lexus have ?

Geez.. after reading about this, I'm gonna quit my bitching about the reliability of my lemon.. I must only have a slice, others have the full box... but it does mean that I won't be buying another, and thinking that I'll be offloading it when the warranty expires..

It's always good to get a head up. I was just thinking about to get second hand Passat TDI. I thing I changed my mind. The new one only is the way to go.

This is my first official post and I thought I'd start with something a little controversial.

I own a 2006 MY07 Passat V6 sedan and I really do love it! It's just about to come out of warranty and, thanks to this forum, I'm now kitted out with an additional 3 year warranty at a bargain price! As you'll see, this is a really important issue for me!

Here's a list of all my warranty repairs carried out over the last 3 years.
From newest to oldest work (and problem):
Replacement control arms front suspension (squeaking sound going over large bumps)
DSG basic settings reset (the dreaded clunk/lurch syndrome)
Replacement Gear Selector (flaking silver trim cut my finger!)
ABS recoded (would come on during light braking after going down/up a dip in the road)
Replacement front right wheel bearing (worn out!)
                  Battery cable replacement (model recall)
Replacement Park break control unit (wouldn't come off sometimes)
Replacement ABS control unit (see above)
                  Replacement catalytic converter (noise)
Replacement MFD instrument cluster (would go blank, especially in hot weather)
Installed break calipers (low speed noise)

                  Can anyone beat this?

                  Cheers

The battle with VW Australia (the dealer itself wasn't helpful at all)lasted 3 days and I've won it, they'll cover it 100% parts and labor . Just as i was about to give in and gave a go ahead on a repair VWA called me to let me know they'll cover it 100%.
