Their attitude really does suck and their dismissive "get our road testers to learn and recite by rote" comment is petulant and childish.
You're not wrong there. They've lost me that's for sure. I could understand their comment if launch control was some brand new, never before seen feature. But it's been around for a while now, and it's not as if it's unique to just the R36 or VW for that matter.
At least they did make a bit of a deal about the correction though, I'll give em that.
This annoyed me too. If they are going to assess a car on a particular area of performance, then they have an obligation to get it right! I couldn't give a **** about the 201 different settings of the air con, but i do care about the performance and it's something they should have checked. Even more so when it wasn't up their own expectations either, and they didn't even bother to then go and check if they were missing something.
Very lazy on their behalf.
x 2!! Perfect rebuttle to your smartarse colleague.
Only problem is, since you live in the Nanny State, you'd prob lose your license trying to prove him wrong!
Cheers,
Jayse.
The Fräulein: Black .:R36 Wagon...all boxes ticked!!

And you could probably say that Top Gear Australia is the New Testament!
Apologies in advance to any who require it, but both are rubbish
Still the wheels review hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for the R36, will wait to see what the Golf R is like but most likely go with an R36 wagon (have a family so space is a consideration!)
Agreed!!! TGA is RUBBISH. Australia car mags are RUBBISH. They don't have anyone with any decent knowledge of what they're talking about...
A shame the R36 has never made an appearance on TGUK more than in a photo in the news. Jeremy's quote was classic but it's a shame he hasn't actually driven it.
Agree about the Mags... In recent times Wheels has become a sucker to the type of crap reporting the TGA has bought to this space. One used to buy wheels to get the details that real car enthusiasts would report on in such details it felt like you were their. You actually used to learn the important about the car that only an expert with proper time behind the steering wheel could do.
Instead now, we have a group of journalists that just happen to like cars ruining what used to be a brilliant Magazine. Ged Bulmer has a lot to answer for in his reign as the editor for turning it into the steaming piece of poo that is now turned out each month. Bulmer is more interested in lining up his next long term ride each month to keep his wife happy.
The ONLY contemporary car mag worth reading is EVO. This is just another example of why Aussie car mags are a waste of Australia's fast-disappearing trees!

Indeedy yes. Unfortunately Motor magazine in particular has now started reprinting EVO articles (without acknowledging where they're from), rather than doing the hard work themselves. Only complaint I have about EVO is the low number of stars they give the R36 in their rankings. As discussed in a previous thread, this probably has more to do with the incredible markup on BMW, Audi and Mercedes in Australia which means in our terms they're not comparing apples with apples.
